We're thrilled to announce that the 40th Annual Ovid Strawberry Festival will feature a dazzling fireworks display on Friday, June 12th at 9:30pm at The Pumpkin Stand (7844 Route 414, Ovid.)

Parking opens at 8:30pm, and don't worry, we've got a rain date set for Saturday, June 13th.

We're forever grateful to our incredible parade organizer and the Village of Ovid for securing a grant through the Seneca County Tourism Grant, making this magic possible! ✨

The McKee Family Big M Scholarship has officially been established to honor the lasting impact that the Big M Grocery Store had on the community and the values it stood for: hard work, reliability, responsibility, and service to others.

This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating South Seneca High School senior who has demonstrated a strong work ethic through part-time employment during high school and a commitment to balancing work, academics, and life goals.

Preference will be given to students who show:
✔️ Responsibility
✔️ Perseverance
✔️ Strong work ethic
✔️ Community values
✔️ Clear plans for life after high school

Whether your next step is college, the skilled trades, or another career path, this opportunity was created to recognize students who embody the spirit of dedication that defined both the Big M and Mr. James McKee.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗬𝗼𝘂, 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗺 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 🤍

We are incredibly grateful to Spectrum News for taking the time to tell the story of the Ovid Big M and the people who made it such a special part of our community.

One year later, this anniversary is still heavy for so many — former employees, families, neighbors, and everyone who walked through those doors and called it part of their everyday life.

To our community: thank you for the kindness, the messages, the memories shared, and the continued support over this past week. It has meant more than words can say.

The building may be gone, but the heart of Big M — and the heart of Ovid — is still very much here.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗠 – 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 🤍

Today marks one year since the fire that took the Ovid Big M and forever changed the heart of our village.

As we look back, so many of the memories that come to mind are from the holidays — the lights on Main Street, familiar faces in the aisles, last-minute stops, warm conversations, and the feeling that you were running into neighbors more than running errands.

This past year has not been easy. Main Street has been quieter. Emptier. And during the holidays especially, the absence was deeply felt. We missed the traditions. We missed the routines. And most of all, we missed you.

But the Ovid Big M was always more than a store.

It was a place where this community showed up for one another — whether it was through fundraisers, small acts of kindness, or standing beside neighbors during their hardest days. Those “No One Fights Alone” shirts weren’t just words. They were how this town lived.

That spirit didn’t disappear with the building.

It lives on in the way Ovid continues to care for its own. In how we rally. In how we remember. And in how we keep showing up — together.

Today, we invite you to share your favorite memories in the comments — from the holidays or any time of year.

And as we look ahead to the year before us, we hold onto hope. Hope for Main Street. Hope for renewal. Hope that something meaningful and good will grow from what was lost.

Because buildings can be rebuilt…
community endures…

Come out and support Ovid and enjoy all of today’s festivities ❄️🎅🏻🎄

Hot Beverages, Vendor Chili & Mac n, Cheese, Home & Holiday Decor, Jelly/Jam, etc.

Due to our new store front not being ready, we will be popped up outside our building 8am-5pm. Our neighbors, Finger Lakes Florist, Fabulous But Frugal and the Ovid Liqour Store, will also be open normal business hours.

There will be festivities going on at the Ovid Historical Society 10am-4pm and Friends of The Three Bears (including silent auctions). Letters to Santa at Blades and Banter, as well!
