Husband went to Amish Auction and came home with boxes of food. So far I have a 6 gallons of whole dill pickles, 13 Quarts regular Green beans and 10 Green beans with Shell Beans, and a batch of 14 day Sweet Pickles where started last night. They beans are down to pressure canning and I have a mountain of cucumbers to slice for hamburger pickles. I see jar washing in my future. I wish you didn't have to wait on the cucumbers to pickle. They always taste so good. We ate our last home made pickle in April so I bought a jar from the store. They are still taking up space in the fridge! Can I get a YUMMY?!

Save the Dandelion and you save the bees and yourself!

The wonderful dandelion will not take over. It will bloom and you will mow and the grass will choke it back and come fall it will bloom again. It really has a wonderful place in your life. The roots dried and used as a tea or added to coffee fight and kill cancer cells, the leaves dried and used in tea provide healing properties as well as vitamins and minerals, leaves can be eaten fresh in a mixed greens salad, the milky substance in the stem kills warts, the blooms make a good tea, mead, wine, salad vinegar, jelly, shrub, and much more. If you dig them put them to use. Maybe you know a friend into herbs, an herbalist, a naturalist or alternative healer that could help you with your "problem" as they stock their pharmacopeia.

Final word. PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T KILL THE HEALERS!

The hens are blessing me with eggs so I made pickled eggs with saved pickled beet juice and a quart from saved dill pickle juice. Now they sit and wait. King Cash had oranges for 10 cents a piece so I bought enough to fill the food dehydrator with orange slices and some to eat too! Going to try making the pet treats for the critters we love, wish me luck! Have garlic growing in its forever spot! Makes me happy. I found sprouting garlic at Gerbes for 59 cents a bulb in the produce department. Going to add it to the spot. I want to go mushroom hunting! I have the fever!!

I dropped a beef chuck roast in the crockpot with an onion, garlic, bay leaves, and a nice seasoning mix. I can hardly wait until the wee hours of morning when I start dreaming of the family gathering around a scrumptious roast dinner with all the fixings! Yummy.

Fun day in the pantry!

Spent some time in the kitchen and pantry straining tincture, oils, and extracts. Funny thought of the day, "if the chickens eat the lemon and orange peels from the extract making (brandy and vodka was used as well), will the eggs laid be the cure for a hangover or the cause of the next one?" I had never seen them fight over orange peels before today. I have a few more to strain tomorrow, but I had a mess of oily jars to clean up and feet I wanted to put up! Winter might be here but creativity keeps flowing!

Juice is resting in the fridge and tomorrow there will be jelly! I love it when a plan comes together. The smell of the plums has my house smelling wonderful.

Plums are harvested, cleaned, sorted, and are now turning into yummy meaty juice in a stock pot. Kadie ate more than she picked but that's just Kadie. 😉 I saved her a small bowl so she has a few to eat. I see the pears are close to ready so I should check on the apples soon and the wild grapes. Fall yummy's! We harvested a few tea makings and are excited to see a few dandelions blooming and the violets are popping up again too! Happy Harvesting! I wonder how the crab apples are doing......
