Oma & Haus’s Homestead has expanded to ducks! They are about 4.5m old and seem to be mostly girls. We also welcomed an Americana hen to our flock.

Cookie Monster is a first time mom! We swapped for fertile eggs with a friend. She’s so proud of her babies ❤️❤️❤️

The new chicks. 10 Easter eggers for a 4H project and 2 barnyard mixes hatched by Cookie Monster! We decided to see if Miss Monster would mother the 4H ten and she has accepted them as her own so far. ❤️

We won the battle against scaly leg mites and it was a long one. Two ended up with it, but that’s it. One was mild and doing great after a full round of the gasoline treatment. The other had it worse and the treatments were working very slowly. So in my frustration, I gave her a soak in warm water and eucalyptus oil mixed in. I also put the oil under her wings and on her back. That seemed to make the biggest difference. She started showing big improvement everyday after that. She’s all healed and laying again.

Last Tuesday the chickens were free ranging and when I locked them up for the night, I was missing one. Still missing Wednesday-Friday. We figured a hawk or fox got her. She walks up Saturday morning and is tossed in with the flock by my son. I was checking for eggs this afternoon and noticed one with a moderate case of scaly leg mites! Ugh. Then we saw another one with a very mild case. We quarantined the 2 and treated them, then raked the entire run and burned the stuff. Tomorrow the coop gets cleaned again and lime goes everywhere. What a nice thanksgiving weekend.
