Early Morning Harvest

Early Morning Harvest Iowa’s Premier Organic Grain Mill - USDA Certified Organic Grain, Fresh Produce, Pasture-raised Eggs 💛🌱💙
(1)

We are a small family farm rooted in regenerative organic practices, where healthy soil, cared-for animals, and clean food all go hand in hand. At the center of our work is our stone mill, where we craft fresh, nutrient-dense flours from certified organic grains—including wheat, rye, buckwheat, and cornmeal. By milling in small batches, we preserve the full flavor, texture, and natural goodness of

each grain, offering flour that reflects both tradition and quality you can taste. Beyond the mill, we grow a diverse variety of garden-fresh vegetables and raise pastured poultry for egg production—always without the use of synthetic chemicals. Our highest priority is stewardship: caring for the land so it can continue to nourish both our family and our community for generations to come. Our greenhouse includes an aquaponics system—a sustainable method that pairs fish and plants in a natural cycle—but it plays a supporting role in our broader commitment to regenerative farming. Our roots run deep, with a family farming legacy that began in 1993 alongside Jeff’s dad, Earl, blending time-honored practices with thoughtful innovation. From land once considered for industrial development in the 1980s to a thriving, working farm, Early Morning Harvest has become a trusted source for fresh, traceable food. We’re proud to serve our community not only through what we grow and mill, but through how we give back—donating flour to food banks, supporting hunger relief efforts across Iowa, and partnering with local grocers and independent stores to make our products accessible throughout the region and beyond.

🍋✨ Light, Bright, and Perfect for May!
If you’re craving something fresh and sunny this week, our Lemon Poppy Seed Snack Cake is the kind of simple spring bake that never disappoints. Made with 's General‑Purpose Flour, it bakes up soft, tender, and full of that zesty lemon pop that feels just right for May.
It’s a one‑bowl recipe, kid‑friendly, and ideal for lunchboxes, picnics, or an easy dessert after dinner. A little glaze on top makes it extra special — but it’s just as delicious plain with a cup of coffee.
Spring baking doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes all you need is good flour, bright lemons, and a reason to slow down for a slice.

🌾 This is our favorite season — planting and tending our certified-organic grains!
We grow hard red spring wheat, rye, buckwheat, and corn across our acreage using regenerative practices that build healthier soil every year. Then it all comes inside to our on-site stone mill where we grind it fresh the old-fashioned way, keeping the germ, oils, and full Iowa sunshine flavor intact.
Early-morning harvest means cooler temperatures and peak quality locked in.
Bakers and home cooks — what’s your favorite way to use our stone-milled flour? Sourdough? Pancakes? Share your recipe below!👇

🌕✨ Rare Luna Moth Visitor Alert! ✨🌕
We had a magical surprise this morning at Early Morning Harvest — a stunning North American Luna Moth checking out the greenhouse! These ethereal pale-green beauties are quite rare to spot thanks to their short adult lifespan and nocturnal habits. With their long tails and glowing appearance, they look like they flew straight out of a fairytale.
So grateful for these special moments in nature right here on the farm!
