Our VENDOR SPOTLIGHT this evening promotes Mahaska Native Plants !

Mahaska Native Plants is an initiative by the Mahaska County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), frequently hosting native plant sales to promote local biodiversity. These plant sales feature native Iowa flowers and grasses at highly affordable prices, often around $3 each, to help residents build pollinator-friendly gardens.

Popular native plants native to the Mahaska County area include:
• Forbs/Wildflowers: Butterfly milkweed, prairie blazing star, golden alexander, New England aster, and wild geranium.
• Grasses: Little bluestem, Indian grass, and Canada wild rye.
• Trees/Shrubs: Black willow and wild plum.

Where to Find Them
• Pella Farmers’ Market, of course!
• Mahaska County Environmental Learning Center: Hosts SWCD plant sales where you can shop from a selection of over 20 native varieties. After major kickoff events, passive sales are often available using a scan-and-pay system on-site.

Check them out this evening, or follow their social media at:

Week 3 of the Market is shaping up to be a fun and educational evening as we dig into this week’s theme: The Dirt on Gardening 🌱

Whether our vendors grow it, bake it, create it, sew it, preserve it, or craft it — this week is all about celebrating the hands, creativity, and care that help things grow in our community.

We’re also excited this week to welcome a Master Gardener to the Market! Community members will have the opportunity to stop by, ask gardening questions, and learn more about planting, growing, and caring for their gardens throughout the season. We hope this becomes another great way to encourage you to linger, learn, and engage with our vendors.

She may be new to the (PFM) scene, but she is no novice in the kitchen. Meet Taylor from Crust & Crumb Bakery! Welcome her to the market this evening on the east side of Pella's square. Taylor embodies the theme for this evening: Fresh Food, Better Living!

Straight from Taylor's heart:

"Welcome to Crust and Crumb!

At Crust & Crumb, baking is more than just a business—it’s a passion project rooted in love, family, and the simple joy of homemade goodness. My name is Taylor, and I am a stay-at-home mom with a love for baking. I started this home bakery to share fresh, from-scratch treats with my community while creating something meaningful for my family.

What began as baking for family and friends quickly grew into a dream of bringing comforting, handcrafted baked goods to others. From naturally leavened sourdough breads to soft and gooey cinnamon rolls and sweet homemade treats, every item is made with care, quality ingredients, and time-honored techniques.

I believe the best moments are often shared around the table, and my goal is to create baked goods that feel comforting, memorable, and made with heart. Whether you’re picking up a fresh loaf for your family dinner or a sweet treat for a special occasion, I’m so grateful to share a little piece of my kitchen with you.

Thank you for supporting my small business and following along on this journey!"

Excuse me, but did you notice that it's opening day of....PELLA FARMERS' MARKET SEASON!!! Come out at 4pm for our eventful KICKOFF!

This year, it is our goal to celebrate one of our faithful vendors every week. On this OPENING DAY, we feature our own sourdough bread queen, Emma Bankard! She has had an eventful year of ups and downs, but she always showed up when she possibly could and her baked goods were a regular sell-out!

Straight from Emma's heart:

“My name is Emma Bankard and I am the owner/baker at Em’s Sourdough! 🥖
My husband, Logan, and I have two children (Sawyer’s 2 years old and Lucy’s 9 months)!
I started Em’s Sourdough in 2024 when my son was 6 months old and haven’t looked back!

I strive to feed my family the highest quality foods and that’s why I started baking sourdough! I geek out about it and truly believe a properly proofed loaf can be, not only delicious, but also better for digestion and gut health. It’s the main food that got me through my pregnancy with Lucy!

I love selling bread at the Pella Farmers Market because I get to see all of YOU and provide sourdough to a community I love!!

I hope to bake bread and other goodies (like my best selling pop tarts!!) for you and your family this summer!😌

Excited to be back for another great Farmers Market season!👩🏽‍🌾🥖”
