Watermelons MEGA FARM: An Incredible Journey From Field to Packaging
Mass production of watermelons begins with meticulous planning and cultivation. As the watermelons ripen on the vines, teams of workers gather in the early morning to harvest the fruit, employing various techniques to carefully detach them without damage. Once harvested, the watermelons are swiftly transported to the processing facility, where they undergo a series of automated and manual sorting processes. Automated systems facilitate the cleaning, polishing, and labeling of the watermelons, while workers stationed along conveyors ensure precise sorting and packaging. With each step optimized for efficiency and quality, the facility churns out vast quantities of watermelons destined for distribution. From there, trucks equipped with refrigerated containers transport the fruit to supermarkets and retailers worldwide, meeting the insatiable demand for this beloved summer staple.
In 2020, the global production of watermelons reached an astounding 101.6 million tonnes, with China (mainland) emerging as the dominant player, contributing a staggering 60% of the total production at 60.1 million tonnes. Notably, several other countries also made significant contributions to the global watermelon production landscape. Secondary producers such as Turkey, India, Iran, Algeria, and Brazil each boasted annual production figures ranging from 2 to 3 million tonnes in 2020. This distribution highlights the widespread cultivation and popularity of watermelons across various regions, underscoring its status as a staple fruit in diets worldwide.
