September is Hunger Awareness Month 🍊 TBH, bringing “awareness” to one more thing feels overwhelming and at times, paralyzing. We’d love to direct your attention to your LOCAL food system this HAM. Your IRL neighbors, the kids at your school and maybe just maybe, the veggie bus that shows up at your local library 🥰 Here at Farm Express, we do not believe that fresh food is a luxury. Friends! Our local crop of certified organic, medjool dates from the one and only Desert Fruit Farms are now selling for THREE dollars a bag (half pound). These babies can be kept in the fridge and freezer. We are obsessed with these desert treasures. Desert Fruit Farms is a three generation date farm, in sunny Yuma! 🍊

This weekend was our Executive Director’s birthday weekend … we’re using this as an excuse to give you a little peek behind the scenes 🧁 Behind every single one of our mobile markets, is the heart and mind of Elyse Guidas. Her grit, tenacity and unwavering commitment to dignity and choice are the WHY behind how and what we do. She leads our team graciously, looking to care for our needs while staying committed to our communities. With every budget sheet, protocol, heat wave, economic crisis & election season, Elyse is steering the ship toward an equitable food system for ALL. Often the odds of these variables are against us. She does not push through these odds to win. Elyse pushes because it’s the right thing to do. She leads us with a soft front and an even stronger back. “Hey y’all we know that traffic stops have been resulting in an uptick of detentions. To help try to combat this, Puente is doing a free break light clinic to replace taillights, headlights, turn signals and wiper blades. We will have experienced mechanics and also community member with auto experience to help anyone who needs help changing these out. We ask that people BYOB (bring your own bulbs) but have a plan in place for those who may show up without them.
