According to Christian and Catholic doctrine, Jesus died on a Friday; therefore, fasting on Fridays developed to be a means to remember his sacrifice. But, this kind of fasting didn't entail going without food. Simply put, that meant avoiding red meat. Fish is thus acceptable to consume on fasting days because they have cold blood. So, it's Fish Friday!
