You've probably seen companies advertise "99% purity" or "98% purity."
But what does that actually mean?
Contrary to what many people think, purity isn't a measurement of how "strong" something is.
It's a measurement of how much of the sample is the intended compound versus impurities or unwanted byproducts.
Think of it like this:
A higher purity percentage generally means there are fewer unwanted substances present—but purity is only one part of evaluating a research compound.
Researchers also consider: 🔬 Identity 📊 Stability 🧪 Manufacturing quality 📋 Documentation 📦 Proper storage and handling
Understanding purity helps you ask better questions—but it doesn't tell the whole story.
