Every once in a while, somebody visits the Hollis Country Store and manages to put into words exactly what makes this place so special.

Recently, EverAfterintheWoods.com featured us in a story titled:

“6 Arkansas Hole-In-The-Wall Country Shops With Homemade Pies Worth Craving”

And we have to admit… they described the Hollis Country Store pretty darn well.

They wrote about our historic stone building, whose original core was built in 1931–1932, and the fact that the store was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

They talked about the Crain family’s connection to the store since 1940 - with the fourth generation keeping the lights on today.

They mentioned the things folks have come to love about a visit here: the retro candies, glass-bottled sodas, the front porch, the fried bologna sandwiches made with Petit Jean Meats, and, of course, our homemade pies.

But one line especially caught our attention:

"Rushing feels almost rude.”

We laughed when we read that because, around here, we’ve got a name for that.

Welcome to Hollis Time. ❤️

Hollis Time is when the clock seems to move just a little slower.

It’s taking a few extra minutes on the porch.

It’s sitting down for a fried bologna sandwich instead of eating on the run.

It’s having a slice of pie and a cold RC Cola.

It’s looking around at the old signs and shelves and remembering a time when things were just a little simpler.

It’s striking up a conversation with somebody you’ve never met before.

And it’s realizing that maybe you don't need to be somewhere else five minutes from now.

Because when you're at the Hollis Country Store, there's really no reason to rush.

That’s Hollis Time.️

For more than eight decades, the Crain family has worked to keep this little country store going - preserving not just a building, but a piece of the history, character and spirit of rural Arkansas.

We’re grateful that others see something worth preserving here, too.

Thank you to "Ever After in the Woods" for including the Hollis Country Store among these six Arkansas “hole-in-the-wall” country pie shops.

And if you haven’t experienced Hollis Time yet for yourself…

What are you waiting for?

ONE MORE THING…

We’re taking a short little break before the busy fall season gets underway.

The store will be CLOSED until Thursday, September 24th, when we’ll reopen and resume our regular Thursday–Saturday hours.

We’ve got a big fall ahead, and we’re taking these next couple of weeks to rest, recharge and get ready for everything that’s coming.

So mark your calendar for September 24th and come see us when the doors open again.

The pies will be waiting.
The bologna will be sizzling.
The RC Cola will be cold.

And there’ll be plenty of Hollis Time waiting for you.

If you’ve traveled Scenic Highway 7 south of Hollis, chances are you’ve seen Deckard Mountain rising above the Fourche country.

It’s got a couple of things we know for sure:

✔️ It’s the highest point in Perry County.
✔️ It’s a walk-in turkey hunting area.

But then there’s the other story…

According to local legend and mountain lore, there’s hidden treasure somewhere on Deckard Mountain.

Now, we’re not saying it’s true.

But then again… we’re not saying it isn’t.

If you’ve heard the story — maybe from your granddaddy, an old-timer at the store, or somebody who swears they know where it is — send us a private message and tell us about it!

And if you actually know where the treasure is…

Well… we were just kidding about that part.

Around here, some of the best stories are the ones that have been passed down for generations — whether they’re about hidden treasure, old roads, forgotten places, or the people who helped make this little corner of Arkansas what it is today.

Just one more reason to slow down, take the scenic route, and see what you might discover along Highway 7.

A QUICK REMINDER FROM THE STORE:
We’ll be CLOSED the next two weeks — September 10–12 and September 17–19 — while we take a little time to rest and get ready for the busy fall months.

We’ll reopen Thursday, September 24, for our regular Thursday–Saturday hours.

So mark your calendar, come see us, grab a fried bologna sandwich, and maybe ask us about that treasure…

If we tell you, we might have to make you swear you won’t tell anybody.

TAKE A SCENIC HIGHWAY 7 ROADTRIP THIS LABOR DAY WEEKEND -- and include a stop at the Hollis Country Store!

There’s a reason Highway 7 is known as Arkansas’s Scenic Byway. Stretching from the Ouachita foothills at Caddo Valley all the way to Diamond City on the shores of Bull Shoals Lake, this road trip takes travelers through some of the state’s most breathtaking landscapes, charming small towns, and unforgettable attractions. Whether you’re seeking outdoor adventure, local flavor, or simply the joy of a winding drive through the mountains, Scenic 7 delivers.

Your journey begins in Caddo Valley, just outside of Arkadelphia, where the Ouachita Mountains rise up to greet you. As you wind north, you’ll quickly find yourself in Hot Springs National Park, one of Arkansas’s crown jewels. Take time to stroll Bathhouse Row, soak in the thermal waters, and explore the hiking trails that lace the surrounding hills. North of town, Hot Springs Village and Jessieville give way to wide-open mountain views as you climb deeper into the Ouachitas.

Midway along your trip, plan a stop at the legendary Hollis Country Store, established in 1930 and located deep in the Ouachita National Forest. This fourth-generation, family-owned store has become a true Arkansas landmark, known far and wide for its famous bologna sandwiches, RC Colas, and Moon Pies. Recognized by AAA Magazine as one of the “10 Legendary Spots to Sample Sensational Sandwiches,” Hollis isn’t just a place to grab a bite — it’s a step back in time, where hospitality and history meet.

Continuing north, Highway 7 winds into Russellville and the Arkansas River Valley. Here you’ll find Lake Dardanelle State Park, a haven for fishing and family-friendly recreation. A little further along lies Dover and the gateway to the Ozark National Forest, with towering bluffs, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. Keep your camera ready — the Grand Canyon of the Ozarks, just south of Jasper, is one of the most photographed views in the state.

Finally, your road trip concludes at Diamond City, perched on the shores of Bull Shoals Lake. This quiet town is a paradise for anglers and boaters, offering a peaceful end to a journey filled with mountains, rivers, history, and hospitality. From start to finish, a drive on Scenic Highway 7 is more than a road trip — it’s a chance to experience the best of Arkansas’s natural beauty and small-town charm.

There’s something special about a homemade pie...

Ours are made from scratch by Gena - and while we think they’re pretty enough to look at, it’s that first bite that really matters. Because around here, we believe a great pie ought to taste every bit as good as it looks.

One of our favorite compliments is when someone takes a bite and says:

“This is just as good as my grandma’s.”

And we always smile when we hear it - because we all know nobody makes pies quite like Grandma did!

So if you’re looking for a slice of pie that tastes like the best one you remember… make the scenic drive through the mountains to the historic Hollis Country Store.

Come slow down for a while. Enjoy a homemade pie. Visit with folks. Take in the mountains.

A simpler time and place.

And that’s how we like it.
