Did you know that we do SAMPLE SATURDAYS at the The North Country Food Co-Op? It’s a fun way to test out new food you’ve never had before. It’s also a great way for us to give back to our customers. We love sharing new products, local staples and fan favorites.

If you come in between 10 AM - 1 PM on Saturdays you should see a small table by the front register. Feel free to try out whatever’s there. This week we are doing hot sauce sauceleopard and Meier’s Artisan Cheese.

The North Country Food Co-op try’s hard to anticipate your baking needs. They prepackage baking staples so it is easy to shop for what you need quickly.

They purchase larger bags of local flour options, have refillable containers for extracts and have all your baking supplies. If you don’t see something you use regularly it’s OK to ask a sales associate to see if we can get it in stock. It’s not always an option but you can’t get what you want unless you ask. Don’t forget that you can order in bulk as well and get an extra discount.

The NCFC is full of things you had no idea they carried. Come poke around and see what you can find for your next baking adventure.

Purple asparagus has arrived at the NCFC thanks to local farmer Joshua Miner. This Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer as we start to see fresh local veggies showing up here at the store. The day started out a bit gloomy but turned into a beautiful one.

Come try some and get the rainbow of colors your body needs.

Local is just better! When you shop locally more money stays in your community. When you shop micro-local this helps support more than just the local economy. Every micro-local purchase helps build a stronger and more resilient community.

North Country Creamery is one of our micro-local suppliers. They are right around the corner in Keeseville, NY. We carry their yogurt and cheese products. They also have their own Farm Store at their location on 931 Mace Chasm Rd. Check it out sometime. But if you can’t make it out there, we always have them stocked and ready to purchase at the Co-Op.

One of the most important areas at the North Country Food Co-Op is the bulk section! But I’m not sure everyone knows about all the amazing products you can bulk fill.

This is me filling up an old dish soap container with bulk dish soap. According to the U.S. EPA, plastic containers of all kinds are a major waste stream, with most plastic packaging ultimately going to a landfilled rather than recycled . If everyone purchased their household cleaning needs like this we would save so much from going into landfills.

You can use any container from home. Clean it out, take it to the front cashier to be weighed and fill it up!!! It’s so easy.

Have you ever wondered about the viewpoints of a cooperative? What values they follow?

Cooperatives are heavily influenced by both cooperative principles and values. To help the public and our members understand and get to know our cooperative values and principles, each week we will explain how the North Country Food Co-Op follows or upholds them.

Here are the seven cooperative principles that are followed:
1. Voluntary and Open Memberships
2. Democratic Member Control
3. Members’ Economic Participation
4. Autonomy and Independence
5. Education, Training, and Information
6. Cooperation Among Cooperatives
7. Concern for Community

is a 100% worker-owned cooperative in Massachusetts. They embody the principle that speaks to two cooperatives working together ( #6). Cooperatives cooperate among themselves to further their objectives and to support, promote, and develop other cooperatives as a greater good. This company is one of our May sales items. Come down and support an amazing company locally and nationally.
