Hooray for late spring rain!!! And for LOTS of fantastic produce!!! Stone fruits are here and looking great. Peaches, nectarines, apricots and cherries are currently coming from CA, but will be ready from the PNW in a few more weeks. Melons from CA and MX have been tasty and ripe, including cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon. Navel and Mandarin oranges are still coming in juicy and delicious. And we have more strawberries from both Valley Flora and CA.
Also from VF this week are Harukei turnips, broccolini, red radish bunches and artichokes.

Red and green head lettuce from CA are looking great, as are kale, rainbow chard, parsley and cilantro. Other awesome veggies include asparagus (both green and purple), Brussels sprouts, green beans, zucchini and eggplant.

Also, we will start selling celery by the pound this week due to inconsistency in the size of the bunches.

Big thanks to Charlie Johnson for his donation of a cooler to store ice that will keep produce at its freshest!

Happy Eating, Meg and Deb

Long, sunny days and warmer temperatures are signs that summer is coming soon, and this week, there are many summer favorites to enhance your adventures and celebrations!

Delicious ears of sweet corn, strawberries, rhubarb, cherries, mini seedless watermelons and cantaloupes are on the shelves, along with apricots, peaches and nectarines. Citrus continues to come in juicy and delicious, including choice navel, Mandarin and blood oranges, lemons and
limes and Meyer lemons are back. Many delicious apple varieties are here, as well.
Crunchy CA green beans, VF artichokes, radish bunches and broccolini are here, in addition to fresh Brussels sprouts and portabella mushrooms. Heirloom tomatoes are back this week, alongside cherry and vine tomatoes. And, for a special treat to accompany your dishes, sweet basil, along with cilantro and parsley. Valley Flora lettuces will be available in addition to CA red butter heads, and lacitano kale and rainbow chard are looking great.

We are putting out a call for a large cooler/ice chest, 45 gallons would be ideal. We are so grateful to Port Orford Sustainable Seafood (POSS) for sharing their crushed ice with us to enhance the freshness of our produce, but we don’t have a way to store it on site. Please email [email protected] if you have a clean cooler to donate.

Thanks! And many THANKS to all who have served, as we honor them on Memorial Day!
Peace, Meg and Deb

As I arrived today to get ready for our produce order, I was greeted by a delightful sight. The backyard has been upgraded significantly! The loading deck renovations have begun and we owe a great big thanks to Mark Hughes for his efforts in beginning this summer’s project. Also, many have been involved in the development of our garden, but recently Grace has been working
tirelessly to spruce it up. Please stop in and enjoy the lovely scenery.

We also have some delightful sights inside the store that are sure to enhance your Mother’s Day celebrations and beyond. This week several new items are available, including Valley Flora strawberries, green butter head lettuce, cauliflower, artichokes, bunch spinach and more. In addition, we have CA strawberries and cherries! The first of the CA stone fruits are arriving, apricots, and peaches and nectarines are coming soon. More of the tasty mini seedless
watermelons are here, along with Intenza papayas, choice navel oranges, Valencia oranges and red danjou pears.

Cherry and vine tomatoes join the last of the heirlooms and CA leafy greens are looking great! More purple and green asparagus are on the shelf along with purple sugar snap peas. Mini cucumbers are on sale, as is cilantro and green onions. And green garlic is still available for a limited time.

Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers that make POCC great!
Cheers, Meg and Deb

Days are getting longer and as seasons change, so do produce varieties. For many seasonal items, gapping occurs. This is a time frame during which the item’s production is transitioning between domestic and foreign sources. This can cause a ‘gap’ in the availability of some items.

Currently, this is the case for most peppers and shallots. Soon, domestic crops will be ready and they will return to the shelves with high quality and good prices. There may be
inconsistencies during the first few weeks following a gap, which has recently been the case with strawberries. In fact, we were not able to get strawberries this week, but we do have a few fun alternatives, strawberry papayas and seedless watermelons. Both from MX, they are sweet and delicious!

Leafy greens are looking especially good this week. We also have fresh royal trumpet
mushrooms, kabocha squash and bunches of red radishes. Green garlic is a delicious, fresh alternative to dried garlic harvested last year. In addition to tender green asparagus, we have purple asparagus. Mini cucumbers are at a great price this week, as are the larger ones. And purple potatoes are on sale along with several other items in the Flash Sale display. Still many fantastic apples and citrus fruits available now, too. Enjoy!
Cheers, Meg and Deb

Another fantastic week of produce at POCC!!! Valley Flora has artichokes, cauliflower, rainbow chard and spinach bunches for us. Red butter and Romaine heads from CA are looking good, too. Kale continues to look a little ragged, but tastes great and cucumbers are at a good price.
Red bell peppers are looking better and poblanos and jalapenos continue to be great.

Small avocados are on sale and we have another spring favorite, green garlic. Cherry tomatoes are back this week, along with fair trade heirlooms. White sweet potatoes are at a good price now.

No asparagus or yellow potatoes early this week, but we will try for some more Friday.
More beautiful strawberries are here, and for you pie lovers, rhubarb to go with it. Ambrosia and Pink Lady apples join the bins, alongside Cosmic Crisp, Fuji and lunchbox-sized Kiku. Both apple and citrus prices are on the rise as supplies decrease, but quality continues to be good.

Don’t forget to check out the offerings for this week’s Flash Sale on the price list below. Cheers and Thanks, Meg and De

Back by popular demand…Strawberries! The first of the open pints from CA are here and look great! They are in plastic baskets, unfortunately, but we can reuse them, so if you don’t need them, feel free to return.

We weren’t able to get cherry tomatoes this week, but heirlooms continue to look great. Another nice week of citrus with Cara Cara and heirloom navels, blood
oranges, Mandarins and fancy limes and lemons. Meyer lemons will be back next week.

New to the veggie offerings are protein-rich fava beans, which are best enjoyed by removing the pods and steaming or boiling. Lion’s Mane mushrooms join the usual fungal faves and look fantastic. Lettuces and leafy greens continue to come from CA and baby bok choy, snap peas, artichokes and asparagus will be available. Cauliflower, broccoli and Brussels sprouts are
looking good, too.

Check out the offerings for this week’s Flash Sale on the price list below.

April is here and so are some changes in the produce cases, no foolin’! Some rearranging has occurred to group items according to type. Lettuces, herbs and greens are on the left, where you will find a new variety of microgreens, basic salad mix, along with red butter heads, Romaine heads and bulk varieties. Brassicas are on the right, where you will find Brussels sprouts on sale and this week we have Napa cabbage along with a limited supply of Valley Flora green cabbage.

Peppers, mushrooms and root veggies are grouped and so are citrus fruits and
others.

Another change is a new display on the end cap near the bulk dry herbs and spices- Flash Sale items. There you will find some good deals on produce that is still perfectly good to eat, but may need to be eaten within a few days. These items will be listed at the end of the accompanying produce price list and will be in limited supply.

Cheers to April rain, Meg and Deb!
