Growing sprouts in a jar is the easiest thing to do. Here are the steps :
1. **Gather Your Materials:**
Collect a wide-mouthed glass jar, organic alfalfa seeds, a piece of breathable fabric (like cheesecloth), and a rubber band.
2. **Measure and Rinse:**
Take 1-2 tablespoons of alfalfa seeds and rinse them thoroughly under cold water to remove any debris. Place the seeds in the jar.
3. **Soak the Seeds:**
Fill the jar with water, covering the seeds. Let them soak for about 4-6 hours or overnight, ensuring they absorb enough water to kickstart the sprouting process.
4. **Drain and Rinse:**
After soaking, secure the fabric over the jar opening with a rubber band, allowing for proper drainage. Rinse the seeds under running water, draining excess water each time.
5. **Set the Jar at an Angle:**
Position the jar upside down at a 45-degree angle in a bowl to allow any remaining water to drain out. This helps prevent mold and promotes air circulation.
6. **Rinse Twice Daily:**
Rinse and drain the sprouts twice a day, maintaining moisture without waterlogging. Be consistent to ensure healthy and uniform sprouting.
7. **Observe Growth:**
Within a few days, tiny sprouts should emerge. Continue the rinsing routine until the sprouts reach your desired length (usually 3-5 days).
8. **Harvest:**
Once the sprouts have grown to your liking, give them a final rinse and harvest by cutting them just above the roots.
9. **Store and Enjoy:**
Store your freshly harvested alfalfa sprouts in the refrigerator. They are now ready to enhance salads, sandwiches, or any dish with their crisp, nutritious goodness!
