We are thrilled to share that on Monday, May 18, the City Council unanimously approved our street mural project! This is the first street painting approved through the city planning process in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Beacon wrote an excellent article about the project and the vote. You can read more about it here: https://www.jeffcobeacon.com/the-future-is-bright-and-inclusive-for-uptown-port-townsend-streets/?ref=the-beacon-weekly-news-roundup-newsletter

What's next for the mural? We launched a fundraiser to help cover the cost of paint and other supplies for the mural, and we plan to invite you — yes, folks from all across Port Townsend and Jefferson County — to help paint it!

This April, the Washington State Department of Health announced reductions to the Women Infants and Children (WIC) Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) benefits for 2026. Only 29 Jefferson County children and families will receive benefits this year following 61 percent cuts to a vital bridge between low-income families and fresh, local produce.

These federal cuts mean fewer fruits and vegetables for Jefferson County Families with young children and infants — and reduced income for local farms.

In an effort to counteract the loss, we are launching a community-match program, Family VegRx. Every $30 raised will be matched by the Jefferson County Farmers Markets, which will maintain the WIC eligibility requirements.

Thank you to the Peninsula Daily News for covering this important issue! Read the full article here: https://www.peninsuladailynews.com/2026/05/15/women-infant-and-children-cuts-to-reduce-farmers-market-program/

Happy Rhody Week! 🎉

The Grand Parade will take place on Saturday, May 16 at 1 PM — and yes, the Port Townsend Farmers Market will be open for our usual hours from 9 AM to 2 PM on Tyler Street!

Head to the PTFM early to load up on snacks to enjoy during the parade (or to get your grocery shopping in before Uptown gets busy). Consider a crepe from Zack's Little Creperie, fresh bakery items from Pane d'Amore or Crusty Crumb Bakery, samosas from Tandoori Kitchen, or a refreshing Thai tea from A & N Farm (A & N is back for the first market of the season!). Not to mention all the snackable fresh veggies from our local farmers!

Have you met our new vendor, Ohmygator Studios, yet?

This small, family owned pottery business makes bright and whimsical mugs, vases, plates, bowls, etc. Clair, the main potter, freehand draws all the flowers on her colorful creations. Her children — Heidi, Charlie, and Becca — also make ceramic gnomes. Ohmygator has been successfully selling at the Sequim Farmer's Market for the past few years and is excited to expand into Port Townsend!

Keep an eye out for Ohmygator Studios's whimsical pottery at the next market!

How are you getting to the Chimacum Farmers Market this weekend?

Jefferson Transit Authority is launching a Sunday bus service beginning Sunday, May 3, 2026! Skip the parking and instead take advantage of this new (and fare-free!) service.

The initial rollout of this service will operate as a pilot program, with performance and ridership to be evaluated by the JTA Board in December 2026. Community participation will play a critical role in determining the program’s future, so your participation matters!

Jefferson Transit will be hosting a celebration on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Haines Place from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. All are welcome!
