Celebrate National Farmers Market Week by eating a delicious meal on Sunday, August 9th from 4-10pm. 15% of all sales will be donated to support HFM's market operations 🎉Donations help us keep vendor fees as low as possible, support our charitable programs like SNAP/DUFB and Senior Day, and allow us to hire the staff we need to keep the market thriving and safe.

DOGS AT THE MARKET 🐶🐾

While we love seeing cute pups at the market, they can pose health and safety risks to other shoppers. To accommodate both dog-free and dog-full shopping experiences, we ask that shoppers with dogs attend only between 10am-1pm (Service Animals are always welcome). Additionally, customers who bring dogs to the market must follow these rules:

-Dogs must be kept on a short, non-extendable leash
-Dogs must be under control and by your side at all times
-Dogs must be kept away from produce, plants, and other food products
-All visiting dogs must be sociable to people and other dogs
-Clean up after your dog
-Be understanding that not everyone wants to be near dogs while shopping for food

There’s nothing better than seeing where our market food comes from. 🫐

Last week the Hollywood Farmers Market team visited Schott Family Farm for the last blueberry pick of the season. If you were able to snag a few pints on Saturday, your berries were picked by the Schott and HFM staff!

The Schott family has been farming this land for decades. Farmer Emily’s parents purchased the property 40 years ago with 1.5 acres of blueberries already planted, and the care of the farm has always been passed down through the women of the family. From grandmothers to mothers, and now to Emily, each generation has tended the blueberry fields with dedication and care. Most of the original plants including 70-year-old Berkeley, Bluecrop, and Coville varieties are still producing fruit, while newer Duke and Chandler bushes are being planted to ensure abundant harvests for generations to come.

Like many farmers know, growing great fruit is about much more than harvesting. It means carefully choosing varieties that help each other pollinate, pruning every winter to encourage larger fruit, switching to drip irrigation to reduce moisture-loving pests, and managing weeds to discourage many types of pests. One thing that stood out most was Emily's thoughtful approach to farming. Every decision considers the bigger picture - from protecting pollinators to working with nature instead of against it. Even the birds get their share of the harvest, at least until the berries become scarce!

A huge thank you to the Schott family for welcoming us to the farm and for growing the incredible blueberries we've all enjoyed this season. We can't wait for next year's harvest!
