We are a new farmers market venue located just south of Poteau Oklahoma in the old commuity of Smacker. Navigation, gps & social media sites will all show/check in showing Smacker - so that's why we use it. It is unique & we like to preserve an almost forgotten past. We are located out of the city limits of Poteau, so it was only proper to use the name Smacker. We are farmers ourselves, and homema
kers, homesteaders, backwoods, hillbillies, home grown, down home, down to earth, whatever else could be used to describe us. We take great pride in each of those titles, and are very proud of our roots. We want to offer our vendors an amazing venue to set up at attracting lots and lots of visitors. We know the two go hand in hand to make each market a success. I, Heidi Kellogg the owner, am a vendor at many different venues and I have personally learned that taking care of the vendors is the most important step a venue can do. Then taking care of the customers, which the vendors do a great job of. This goes hand in hand making for great events. We want to offer everything we can at our markets and hope that we become the must stop spot for all visitors (shoppers if you will, but I like to think of them as visitors because we like to treat people like family & friends not just customers and want to see them return regularly). We want our vendors to feel like they are our family and we want to take care of them and help them support their own households by providing the venue for them to sell their products at regularly. We will be adding a hub for vendors to leave products at for us to sell on a regular basis, think a retail store of farmers market items. This will come later in the season as we are rushing to get everything done in a timely and effective manner. Karen Mills is the marketing guru in this & she is currently handling all the paperwork, marketing and licensing for us. I am learning all this as I go, she already has the knowledge and experience. Coupled with some other volunteers and leaders in the market itself, we have a great team put together. Hand in hand we will make this a huge success for everyone.
