Whew! We’re not sure if it’s the exhausting smoke, warm weather or peak garden season… but y’all are keeping us on our best harvesting behavior.
So Sunday August 9th we’re going to be closed.
One of the challenging parts of “Plant-Tend-Harvest by hand” is ….. well…. It’s not speedy. Efficient, we’ve nailed that down but as late summer starts come ready for the beds, we work to provide the optimal happy place for seedlings.. some need more shade from hot August sun, some need a bit more open breeze to sturdy stalks, some need cool airy soil to develop their deliciousness… but each one is thoughtfully planted, where we wish for its best happiness. Gardening, especially in our crazy microclimate and unprecedented climate change, has few guarantees but we watch, listen, check in and learn…
So we will miss you tomorrow, just be comforted that hundreds of tiny lettuce, kale, broccoli, bok choy, carrots, sweet peas, radishes and other yummy produce babies are being gently set in place to fill your wish list in a few weeks… our end of summer cycle is a more broad replant than our usual 21 day succession planting… and we need to get it done..
there’s still blueberries to harvest, herbs to send, botanicles to make and the summer honey pull is happening tomorrow evening. So fresh local high pollen honey next week.
The plum trees are loving this heat and we’re expecting figs and Green gage to be ready any day.
So mark your calendars, next weekend we are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday to honor Chief Seattle Days celebration.
