🌿 GINGER. GROWN IN WISCONSIN. RIGHT HERE IN PRAIRIE FARM!

If you’ve stopped by the Prairie FarmStand this summer, you already know Good Root Growers. They’re one of our wonderful FarmStand contributors, bringing us fresh, locally grown produce throughout the season.

But next Saturday, we’re going to their place! ❤️

Good Root Growers is celebrating its harvest of fresh Wisconsin-grown ginger with the 1st Annual Ginger Fest — Saturday, September 12 from 10 AM–4 PM.

And if you're wondering how ginger is actually grown in Wisconsin, this is your chance to find out. 🌱

Step inside their unique greenhouse, see the ginger growing alongside heirloom tomatoes, peppers and herbs, and spend the day learning, tasting and discovering just how versatile fresh ginger can be.

There’ll be live music, local makers and producers, demonstrations and samples, food and drinks, trails to wander—and, of course, freshly harvested Wisconsin ginger to take home.

And the Prairie FarmStand will be there as a vendor, supporting this exciting local venture and bringing along some of our Farmstand goodies—with a few special Ginger Fest creations in the works. 😉

This is their FIRST Ginger Fest, and we’d love to see our Farmstand friends come out and help make it a great one.

A couple of new things are coming out of the kitchen for the Prairie FarmStand this week! 🌿

We’re especially excited about these two…

🍓 OMA’S RASPBERRY GINGER CRUMB CAKE
A tender lemony crumb cake with a little secret ingredient—cottage cheese!—and a center of our homemade Raspberry Ginger Rum Jam, finished with a buttery crumb topping. ❤️

🍅 TOMATO BASIL PARMESAN MUFFINS
Savory, cheesy and full of basil and tomato flavor. These were made to go alongside a warm bowl of our Tomato Basil Soup—and we still have a few jars of the soup concentrate available this week. Take home the pair and dinner is practically done!

And then there are the crabapples…

Our friend Sam Dodge shared some beautiful Dolgo crabapples with us, and we put them to very good use! 🍎

We made a traditional Dolgo Crabapple Jelly—bright, tart and absolutely gorgeous—and then gave another batch a little Wisconsin twist:

Crabapple and pure maple syrup are a pretty wonderful combination.

🌿 THIS WEEK AT THE PRAIRIE FARMSTAND! 🌿

We’ve got some old favorites, a few new twists, and lots of good things headed to the stand this week!

🍅 Tomato Basil Soup Concentrate is BACK!
This was a favorite last year, and this year’s batch is delicious. Made with tomatoes, basil, garlic, onion, herbs and a touch of balsamic — concentrated so you can take it home, add your finishing touches, and have a cozy pot of homemade tomato basil soup ready to go.

🍫 Crispy Treat Cups — NEW!
Our take on the classic Rice Krispie treat, packed into a little cup and topped with a thin layer of chocolate and just a tiny sprinkle of sea salt. Simple, crispy, chewy, chocolatey…and surprisingly hard to stop eating.

🍋 Lemon Zucchini Crumb Muffins — NEW!
Tender zucchini muffins brightened up with fresh lemon and finished with a buttery crumb topping. The zucchini keeps them wonderfully moist while the lemon keeps them light and fresh — perfect with your morning coffee.

🧁 Oma's Chocolate Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Buttercream
Our rich chocolate cupcakes are back, but this week they’re topped with a creamy peanut butter buttercream. We had a couple of official taste-testers give these a very enthusiastic thumbs-up today. 👍👍

Just when we thought the Farmstand was set for the day, Good Root Growers came through with a couple of fresh additions:

✨ JUST RESTOCKED at the Prairie Farmstand! ✨

Apparently you all have spoken — the Rhubarb Lemonade Concentrate and Dilly Beans are a hit! 😄

I just restocked both, so if you missed out earlier, there’s more waiting for you at the stand.

A quick inventory update: we are now SOLD OUT of:

But there’s still plenty of goodness to choose from — including that refreshing Rhubarb Lemonade Concentrate and those tangy, garlicky Dilly Beans!

🫐 A little sweet, a little savory & plenty of homemade goodness at Prairie Farmstand this Sunday!

Our Blueberry Mojito Jam was such a hit last year that we spent Saturday in the kitchen making a bigger batch this time around!

Sweet blueberries are brightened with fresh lime and mint, while a splash of dark rum adds subtle notes of caramel, vanilla and spice. The mint is just a fresh finish—not overpowering—and the lime gives it that unmistakable mojito-inspired brightness. It’s definitely jam, not a cocktail…but it’s a fun one!

And something new on the savory side—Dilly Beans! 💚 Crisp green beans pickled with fresh dill, garlic, spices and a little touch of heat. Snack on them straight from the jar, add them to a charcuterie board, serve alongside burgers or sandwiches, chop them into potato salad…or tuck one into a Bloody Mary.

🍋 LEMON BARS ARE BACK! 🍋

I have to admit, my Lemon Bars are never quite as pretty as I want them to be. 😂 But they may just be my absolute favorite thing I make for the Farmstand.

There’s something about that buttery crust and that tart, puckery lemon that I just love. And every time I make them, they take me right back to my mom’s kitchen — because they’re just like the lemon bars Mom used to make. ❤️ Sometimes the best things don’t have to be the prettiest!

🍂 And apparently fall is trying to sneak up on us...

It’s only the middle of August, and I drove by a tree this week that already had just a hint of red in the leaves. Yikes! I'm definitely not ready to give up summer yet, but it did inspire this week's new Cookie Bite:

Autumn Spice Chocolate Chip Pecan 🍪🍁

Our regular Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites get a little fall twist with warm autumn spices, chocolate chips and pecans. You'll have to let me know what you think!

🍪 We’re shaking things up a little at the Prairie Farmstand this week!

First up... Cookie Bites! We’ll have THREE varieties this Sunday:

🍪 Chocolate Chip — the tried-and-true favorite, same as always.
🥥 Chocolate Chip Pecan Coconut — one of our new flavors this week.
🤎 Salted Chocolate Chip Toffee — chocolate chips, bits of Heath Bar and just a touch of salt.

The last two are new, so we’d love your feedback! Give them a try and let us know if either deserves a permanent spot in the Farmstand lineup.

🧁 And the Chocolate Cupcakes were a big hit last week, so they’re back again!

🍋 You’ll also find our Rhubarb Lemonade Concentrate in the fridge — but Sue over at Good Root Growers decided to shake things up a bit, too.

They’ve got their 1st Annual Ginger Fest coming up Saturday, September 12, so in preparation, she jumped into the kitchen and created Rhubarb GINGER Lemonade Concentrate! 🌿🍋

If you’re feeling even the least bit adventurous, check it out. We think you might be surprised by how good that little kick of fresh ginger is.
