Changing water in the early spring is not for the weak. It is the coldest water ever, made even colder by storms and because islt all sat over winter nothing works quite like it should. Water was really rough last night. I had to keep telling myself not to cry I love farming, I love farming.
I am thankful and blessed to have water to change. And thankful for my water changing companion he never complains while doing the job and is always willing to go help out even in the cold and I am grumpy. Also thankful for my youngest who stayed home and made us pigs-in-a-blanket for dinner so we could have something hot to eat when we made it home.

The biggest lie ever told when farming: It will only take 15 minutes. 🤦‍♀️ tonight we are working on putting hoses and bonnets out for irrigation. 15 min job. Side by side out of fuel at the farthest corn of the farm. We ended up walking most of the way home before the boys showed up with a ride. By the time I got the gas cans filled up, back to the side by side finished putting out the hoses a 15 minute job took an hour and a half.

Farming is in full swing. Today we changed nozzles on our wheel lines for better coverage and water efficiency. Harrowed the fields, start getting the high tunnel ready to be planted and tagged/castrated calves. It was a full day, feeling tired but good.

Winter canning. I pulled all of the bones we have been saving in the freezer, boiled them down and bottle broth. Turkey, chicken, and beef. I use the little bits of meat that come off to make burritos, enchiladas, and personal sized pot pies, I also used my pressure cook down time to make a few quick breakfastfoods for them. The kids are super excited for easy microwave food. Growing what we love.
