So happy to see a few blooms on our apple and pear trees. For three years running, these trees were totally defoliated and suffered significant die back from grasshoppers. But, thankfully, they are rebounding.

So happy to see a few buds on our apple and pear trees. For three years, these trees have been entirely defoliated and suffered significant dieback as a result of grasshoppers. But, they look like they will recover.

The recent warm weather has enabled us to make early progress, including the installation of drip irrigation systems in multiple raised beds, planting three dozen strawberry bare-root crowns, adding an additional raspberry bed, as well as planting/transplanting iris, lilies, ranunculus, assorted sunflowers, and many other flowers for cutting later in the season. Been a productive week.

Used some corrugated sheet metal from a dilapidated building to make a deep raised bed (we'll likely build 3 or 4 of these beds). Thought we would try German Hügelkultur, the technique of mounding soil over organic matter like logs, branches, wood chips, etc. Curious if we notice a difference between these beds and our shallow beds.

Great Job Pueblo County High School Floriculture Team! Another Amazing Year!

District Champions! 🐝🌼🏆

I’m incredibly proud of these students and the work they’ve put in this season. They walked into today’s competition expecting one category and were met with something completely different. Plot twist! They earned 1st place as a team out of 31 teams. That says everything about their preparation, resilience, and ability to rise to the moment.

I am incredibly lucky to get to coach these ladies. They’ve worked hard, supported each other, and represented the Pueblo County High School Floriculture program so well.

On to State we go! 💛

It's been nearly three years since we posted anything here - three years of locust plagues, 55 fruit trees & 50 laying hens lost, a blown knee, and more. But, the kids are three years older, Abbie has gained expience in FFA & working for a flower farm, & we've developed more growing beds close to home. So, we're going to start slow and see where things go. We're hoping to grow apples, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, peppers, lots of flowers, eggs, & more. We'll see how it goes.
