Mobile Food truck friends, PSA in case you dont know.
Mobile Food and Drink Vendors
As you are probably aware, Texas passed HB2844 in the last legislative session which changes the regulations regarding permitting and inspection of mobile food units. These new rules begin on July 1, 2026 and prohibits local permits and inspections, but does require an annual license and inspection by the Texas Department of State Health Services. This new program will be easier on vendors who travel to multiple towns and in the past had to get seperate permits in each jurisdiction. The new permitting system enacted in HB2844 grants Statewide operations.
To be in compliance, the City ammended the Code of Ordinances to remove the current local food vendor permit and inspection requirements, effective July 1, 2026. The remaining ordinance mainly echoes the State rules and outlines a few parking conditions. The links below outline the program, and as the deadline approaches you are urged to contact the local TDSHS office for information on your inspection to avoid the last minute rush of applicants.
