This is one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to make, and I’ve struggled for days with how to say this. But because Mythical Inferno is a small family business — and because many of you have supported us for years — I want to be open with you about something that is going to affect my availability and operations for a while.
Recently, I received a medical diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma — a form of tongue cancer — and I will be receiving treatment and going through a long recovery period with my care team at UNC.
I want to be very clear about something important:
I have never smoked, never drank, and never engaged in anything that typically leads to this type of condition. I’m otherwise very healthy, with no family history of it. My doctors don’t fully know why this happened — sometimes these things just do — but I’m focusing on treatment and healing.
During this time, my friends and family will be helping run the store and keep orders moving. I may not be physically present at events or at the business for a while, and there may be times when we’re only open on weekends at the farmers market, or possibly not open at all during certain weeks. We’ll keep everyone updated as things move forward.
The biggest support you can give is simply continuing to be part of our Mythical Inferno family. And if you’d like to support the business during this time, you can pick up our sauces at your local Harris Teeter listed on our website — especially Original and Mythically Sweet & Spicy — or visit us at the farmers market and always online. Every bit of support means more than you know and helps us keep everything going while I’m in treatment.
As many of you know, I’m also stage 1 autistic, and big changes like this can be extremely overwhelming for me. Sharing something so personal publicly is very difficult, but I truly appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and kindness as I navigate all of this.
Because of treatment, there may be delays on upcoming products I had planned to launch — especially sauces that require taste-testing and refinement. I still plan to bring them to life, but timelines may shift.
Despite all of this, Mythical Inferno isn’t going anywhere.
We’re still here.
We’re still creating.
And we’re still deeply thankful for each and every one of you.
Thank you for your support, your encouragement, and your understanding during this time.
It means more than you know.
