FISHMONGER’S GETTIN’ A FISHWIFE

I hooked a trophy a few years back, and the big day is tomorrow! We’re taking the week after the wedding for some R&R in Charleston, and it’s a great excuse for me to finally hit up Chubby Fish 😉.

Joey will be holding down the seafood counter most of next week, and as mentioned in the video, we are trialing being closed on Tuesdays at The Market at 25th. We’re tinkering with some other projects at East End Fish Co., and hopefully we’ll have more to share in the coming months! See ya soon!

Black Cod steaks in the house! It’s still grilling season for all I’m concerned, so sprinkle your favorite dry rub on these and toss them on the grate. Fish is also works really well with BBQ sauce!

We also have standard filets that can be cut to your hearts desire.

757 brethren I call upon thee!

Our Know Fish Dinner event on 9/23 is in jeopardy after our original host restaurant appears to have fallen through 👻. This dinner is in conjunction with Farm Aid being held in Virginia Beach this year, and it should be a kick off to various pre-festival events involving our local watermen.

The Know Fish Dinners are put on by the One Fish Foundation all over the country, and they are a great opportunity for consumers to connect directly with the fishermen and farmers and who provide their seafood everyday!

We’re looking for a partner chef and restaurant that support their local seafood economy to host 30-60 people on Wed, 9/23. We already have a few storytellers lined up, and One Fish Foundation coordinates most of the evening. We want to use this dinner as a catalyst for a larger conversation around VA’s seafood industry, so please let us know if you know anyone who throws a banger of a seafood event.

SCHEDULE UPDATES THIS WEEK:

East End Fish Co. strives to be open as often as possible, but as a startup, we also try to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way. We will be closing early today and tomorrow (8/19-8/20) to attend some networking events around Richmond that will be beneficial to the business.

Forrest here 👋 - I was invited to join 's Founder's Summit for a dinner and all day workshop to connect with other VA entrepreneurs. I'm really excited to see what other industries are up to how they can make a positive impact on seafood.

Our Assistant Fishmonger Joey will be attending the quarterly forum. As the business grows, it's very important that employees can get involved with our local food industry and have frequent learning opportunites. Joey will hear from some awesome VA businesses such as , .snacks, and ! He'll be taking notes as we start planning Phase 2 of East End Fish Co.!

Deep Dives? Fishmonger Files? Not sure what to call this series yet, but I’ll be sharing a glimpse into what it’s like being a new fishmonger and other aspects of the seafood industry.

Have you ever wondered how the fish arrives? Well I’ll tell you! Typically wrapped in plastic inside a styrofoam or waxed cardboard box. It’s not ideal, but it’s the reality of big business. Alternative materials using seaweed and kelp are making a splash, but they aren’t at the scale for these larger operations that do hundreds of deliveries a day. East End Fish Co. is but a wee startup, so if Sway or NakedPak want to test some seafood packaging, hit me up!
