Wine Wednesday! We’re getting a little funky today with a wine and cheese that are made using unusual make techniques. Luna Duna Naranja is a skin contact wine from Argentina. What does skin contact mean? After pressing, white wine grape juice is allowed to sit with the skins rather than being separated. The result is a wine with an orange color, more tannins, and funkier flavors. Luna Duna has notes of citrus peel, tropical fruit, and woody herbs—a great introduction to this style of wine! We’re pairing it with a special Portuguese cheese, Serra da Estrela, a raw sheep’s milk cheese that has the distinction of being made with thistle rennet. In addition to being safe for vegetarians, thistle rennet gives the cheese a pudding like texture and vegetable flavor. With notes of artichoke, herbs, and butter, we’ve paired this cheese on a housemade crostini and an habanero pickled carrot. Come by for a taste and to chat cool cheese coagulants 🍷
