Busy, busy day today!

We prepped fields for soybeans and field corn, planted cantaloupe and field-run tomatoes, and are laying plastic now for tomorrow’s watermelon planting. Monday and Tuesday will be all about peppers and eggplant.

The day started before the sun came up, and we’re still going strong.

This is the time of year when we make a lot of difficult phone calls declining parties, BBQs, weddings, showers, and sadly, even funerals. I always tell people, if you want to guarantee we’ll be there, plan it between December and March.

This life isn’t always easy. The hours are long, the work is hard, and there are sacrifices that most people never see. But we truly love what we do. We love growing food, caring for the land, and being part of this community.

So when you’re biting into that sweet corn, slicing a Jersey tomato, or picking out the perfect melon this summer, know that it came with a lot of early mornings, late nights, sore muscles, and missed events.

And honestly? It’s worth it.

Because feeding people and seeing all of you enjoy what we grow makes every sacrifice worthwhile. 🌽🍅🍉❤️🚜

Today, since the fields are so muddy, we took advantage of the downtime and got back into the tunnels. My girls needed a haircut. ✂️🍅

We spent 5 hours removing suckers and pruning back the bottom layers to keep the plants from turning into a jungle in there. This helps create better airflow to prevent disease and keeps the plants focused on producing healthy fruit instead of just giant vines.

Throughout the summer, we’ll keep up with this process to make sure the plants stay healthy and keep those tomatoes coming.

And the best part? We found several little baby tomatoes already growing in the tunnels! 🍅 Which means tomato season is officially getting closer.

Can’t wait to see you all at the stand in a few weeks!

Today we remember the heroes who gave everything for our country. 🇺🇸

While many of us are spending the day with family, firing up the grill, planting gardens, and enjoying time together, let’s not forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

We honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today. Their courage and service will never be forgotten.

From all of us at the farm, thank you to our military families and to those who continue to carry the memories of loved ones lost in service. ❤️🤍💙

Please take a moment today to pause, reflect, and remember.

On this rainy, cold day, we all need a little something to look forward to! 🍉🍈

Here’s how the watermelon and cantaloupe plants are looking! They are more than ready to be transplanted, but the good Lord has other plans right now. So for now, they’re snug as a bug in the tunnel staying warm and growing strong.

We’re hoping this weather finally shifts out by Sunday because we all know how excited everyone gets when George gives us the green light to start picking those melons!

Until then, we wait… and stare at weather apps like it’s a full-time job 🤣🌧️

Anyone have big plans for the weekend?

It’s a rainy day at the farm and honestly… we will TAKE IT! 🌧️🙌

Yesterday I top dressed all the taller corn while George was out making round bales for winter feed for the cows. Busy day all around before the Wizard of Oz remake rolled into town 🤣🌪️ Talk about perfect timing. I hit the very last row and suddenly felt that weird stillness behind me and Dixie. I turned around and could literally see the curtain of rain coming across the fields while the wind started whipping like crazy. Nothing gets your butt moving faster than seeing weather rolling straight at you.

So today turned into more of a high tunnel kind of day. We’re working tomatoes, laying w**d control mats in one tunnel, and prepping another for late fall tomatoes because apparently we don’t believe in relaxing around here 😅🍅

What’s everyone else up to on this rainy day?

Honestly, rainy days should be mandatory farm nap days. Problem is… my body may be tired, but my brain never shuts off long enough to actually take one 🤦‍♀️😂

The question we keep getting asked… WILL THERE BE FOOD TRUCKS AGAIN THIS YEAR?

Hell yes there will!
Listen, I have to feed my family somehow and between farming, meetings, planning, and surviving on caffeine and chaos… cooking ain’t happening. 😂🌽🚜

So far we have locked in:
🍦 Hun Val Ice Cream
🥧 Seasonal Sarah’s Pies
🥟 Endless Empanadas
☕ And of course, we had to have Mo back for Sunday morning!

…and we have a few more we are still working details out with now!

If you know someone with a food truck who would like to join us, have them reach out!

Happy Monday! 🌽☀️

Just a little PSA… this weekend is MEMORIAL DAY weekend, not July 4th 😂 which means NO, we do NOT have sweet corn ready yet!

And honestly… were you all asleep during that crazy April cold snap?! Come on now. We’re good, but we’re not that good. 😅

A few things happening around the farm lately:

🍅 I’ve been singing and talking to the tomatoes this weekend and they are LOVING this heat.

🌱 The field runs will go in next week. We wanted to make sure we were clear of the cold dips first… and guess what? Another one is coming in a few days. Mother Nature has been keeping us on our toes this year.

🌽 The corn is about shin high right now and looking AMAZING.

🧅 The onions survived the freeze and are looking beautiful.

🚜 We’ll start planting everything else this week. We held back a little because the weather has just been all over the place this spring.

This weekend Dakota and I also snuck away from the farm for a fundraiser for the New Jersey Agricultural Society, where she represented NJ Dairy as the State Dairy Princess. She had some hardcore conversations about NJ dairy and the book she wrote with Assemblywoman Andrea Katz and Senator Troy Singleton. Then it was right back to the farm to work.

So yes… we are slowly getting there. Just be patient.

All good things in life are worth waiting for… and George’s sweet corn is definitely one of them. 🌽❤️

Happy Mother’s Day to one of our amazing Stand on 202 customers! 🌸💐

We are so thankful for all the moms who support local farms, shop small, and keep us farmers going all season long. We hope your day is filled with love, laughter, family, and maybe a little Jersey Fresh goodness too! 🍓🌽❤️

Enjoy your special day — you deserve it!

If you’re looking for something fun to do tomorrow, be sure to check out the Hunterdon Community Market at Dvoor Farm (Hunterdon Land Trust by the Rt. 12 circle)!

While we are not set up there with our produce just yet, our daughter Dakota WILL be there scooping HunVal Dairy ice cream! Stop by, congratulate her on being crowned the New Jersey State Dairy Princess, and be sure to ask her some fun dairy fact questions — she absolutely loves that stuff!

While you’re there, check out all of our other friends and vendors too. There are so many new faces this season and lots of really cool local products to explore.

Once our tomatoes and sweet corn are ready to pick, we’ll officially be joining the market too. Until then, go support all the awesome local vendors and enjoy a great morning on the farm! 🌽🍅🍦

Well after that cold weather, we were praying the first planting of sweet corn would turn out okay. Yesterday I finally got to cut the biodegradable plastic we start it under and check how everything looked. VERY exciting news… I’d say about 90% looks amazing!

Now we’re just praying the weather stays on track and we don’t get hit with any more frost nights.

And the tomatoes? Right on schedule! They’re already ready to be tied up, which is always a good sign for a healthy season ahead. 🌽🍅

We are praying hard for our friends who lost fruit crops during these frosts. Farming can humble you real fast, and Mother Nature sure has tested a lot of people this spring. But farmers are resilient people, and we have to keep the faith and keep moving forward.

Some years bring easy wins, and some years bring sleepless nights and replanting. That’s just part of this life we chose. Here’s hoping for warmer nights, healthy crops, and better days ahead for everyone. 🙏
