A few days ago i scythed our rye cover crop to terminate in preparation for our pumpkins. The mulch that is created makes a wonderful cover to prevent or suppress w**ds that want to grow while the pumpkins are growing. The pumpkins are in the ground for awhile and if you mess with the vines to w**d you can damage the plant, weakening the plant and making it susceptible to diseases.

These are pictures from last week when we planted tomatoes. We finished setting up the trellis lines today. Tomatoes are one of the most intense from a management perspective, but are the most rewarding when it comes harvest time.

Each sunrise is a reminder of the blessings bestowed upon us each day. A huge blessing regarding the Farm is that the CSA is officially filled. Since starting a CSA 6 years ago, we typically filled the CSA right around the time it started. This year we added more shares and filled it over a month before the start. We are truly blessed for all the support from our community. We completely depend on the local demand for our produce to make our farm work. We can’t thank you enough!

First plantings of potatoes are done! Potatoes are a crop that display the abundance and provision of God’s creation. In the span of 3 months the potatoes will yield a harvest that packs a lot of calories and provides the storability to sustain through the winter months. They are not the most profitable crop in the garden but are one of the foundational food sources for any homestead.
