Beginning in the 1980s thru the early 1990s we operated a conventional row crop and confinement hog operation producing pork for IBP and later Tyson Foods. As a result of a family health matter, we became aware of the problems that plague our conventional food system and how it is affecting the wellbeing of consumers. Through our personal life experiences we have come to the belief that how we man

age our soil, plants and animals will directly affect the physical and mental health of those who consume the products of our farming choices. In the late 1990s we embarked on a journey to transition our farm to a sustainable multi-species pasture based farming and direct marketing operation. After years of much effort, learning and dedication, our vision was eventually realized as a successful farm-to-consumer food business that thousands of dedicated patrons know as Seven Sons Family Farms. The vocation of bringing food to your table is not just a business to us, but also a personal ministry and responsibility that we take very seriously! Because of the overwhelming support we are now grateful to partner with a small fellowship of carefully selected farmers and artisans that are committed to producing livestock according our specific standards. We invest time to visit and develop trusting relationships with our partnering farms in order to ensure the quality and integrity of our products. It is also our desire to provide any needed mentorship and support to our farms as we seek to build a likeminded community of producers that share a common goal of enriching their lands through sustainable farming practices that result in wholesome nutrient-dense foods. As Christmas approaches, one idea keeps coming to mind: eating together builds belonging.

Over the next few days, roughly 20,000 families across the country will sit down to a Christmas meal or breakfast, nourished by regenerative foods from our fellowship of family farms.

When I imagine this, I see a map of the United States lit up with thousands of tables โ€” different kitchens, different traditions โ€” all connected by a shared belief:

Life begins in the soil. When we care for the land, the land cares for us.

Thatโ€™s one reason regenerative farming resonates so deeply with me. It honors the intricate design of our Creator and reminds us that healing often starts in quiet humble places.

No matter how divided the world becomes, our community remains united by a simple hope โ€” that good food, healthy soils, and local stewardship can quietly restore resilience, abundance, and connection from the ground up.

And long after public policy and big food systems take credit for discovering regenerative agriculture, Iโ€™ll remember this community โ€” the early adopters โ€” who were quietly sowing the real change one meal at a time.

If youโ€™re able, I invite you to leave a holiday greeting for your fellow regenerative food supporters here on the post.

Feel free to share where youโ€™re celebrating from, and help families across the country feel part of something special.

From my family to yours โ€” Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

May your table be filled with nourishing food and a deep sense of belonging

Your farmers,

The Hitzfield family
