This is our virgin queen walking around the laying worker colony. What I believe we are seeing is her searching out and finding the laying worker and putting her in her place. My best guess. In two weeks we will know if our virgin gets mated and turns the colony around.

If a hive goes queenless for some reason you can get what is called a laying worker. This worker takes on the role of the queen but will never be able to lay fertilized eggs to keep the colony going. She does lay eggs but they will only be drones, male bees. This is a problem. The remedy is to provide a strong queen and she can turn the colony around. In this case I have placed a virgin queen in a laying worker colony. This does not always work but you can hear the virgin call out any contenders for the colony. This toot toot sound is called pipping and a rival will respond in kind and they will find each other and fight to the death.
