With Heavy Hearts, We Share the Passing of Denise Groze

It is with profound sadness that we inform our loyal customers that Denise Groze, beloved owner of Szucs Meat Market, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Denise was the third-generation owner and operator of Szucs, and her dedication to the business, her community and especially her family was unmatched. She poured her heart into this market, continuing a proud legacy with warmth, kindness and integrity.

Denise shared an unbreakable and selfless bond with her daughter Kelly a relationship deeply admired by all who knew them. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her three beloved grandsons, Hudson, Halstead and Hendrix, whom she affectionately called her “three boys.” To them, she was more than just “Mimi”—she was their daily caregiver, their biggest cheerleader and the heart of every holiday and family moment.

Left to cherish her memory are her high school sweetheart and husband of 41 years, John M. Groze; her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Michael Ramos of Burlington Twp, New Jersey; and her treasured grandsons.

As we grieve and navigate this transition, we ask for your patience and continued support. Denise loved this community dearly, and we are committed to honoring her legacy with the same spirit and dedication she brought to Szucs every day.

Hey all,

Thank you to everyone who came out this past Saturday for their kolbas orders! We want to let you all know how much we appreciated your patience and kindness! This was a true labor of love for our family and it is full circle when we get to experience the 5th generation in action with us! We are so very thankful and this would not be possible without all those orders and loyal customers over the years! We still have more orders to fill and we will be working hard on a date in the new year. With the 4th generation leading, we think our grandparents would have been more then proud! Greetings all,

We will not be open this holiday season. Although we are sad that we will not be making kolbas for all who enjoy it during this time it has been an eventful year for our family with my parents health. We are expecting another baby boy into our family around Christmas and as you know we are unsure when he will make his arrival! My dad recently had a knee replacement and continues to receive treatment which can make it difficult at times but we still plan on opening in the new year when the latest 5th generation is here! Thank you all for inquiring and for your continued support! We will see you all in the new year!

After over two years of being closed due to a multitude of barriers: COVID, the passing of my mom mom Josie, health challenges for my mom and dad and recent updates to the interior and exterior of the store we had a productive weekend putting us in the right direction for Szucs. My dad and mom were able to make 29 lbs of fresh kolbas at their own pace with the presence of the 5th generation. Hudson and Halstead taking a much needed lunch break picnic style in the picture below! Many have speculated that we are permanently closed, this is not true! We were temporarily closed and will be slowly getting back to opening in a modified way to support our customers. We are working to fill the orders of the customers who have been on the waitlist patiently waiting up until now! Please be on the lookout if you put your name on the waitlist for a call to let you know when your order can be filled! This is a huge step for my parents and the legacy for Szucs!
