Hello friends! Its that time of year that people are starting to think about chicks again and we are starting to get messages. We do not currently have chicks nor are our mommas working on hatching any.

For our new friends, Whitney's belief is that it is best, and most natural, for chicks to be hatched with broody mommas. She does not use incubators. Once hatched she leaves them with the momms, unless necessary to remove, so that she can ensure their health and onto make sure they get important life lessons from the mommas before moving on to new coops.

Since she hatches by broody mommas, and considering the winter weather, she currently does not have any sitting on eggs. Typically they start the brooding when the weather warms up a bit.

So check back later this spring and I bet she will have some cute chickies for yall then!

*These guys have flown to a new coop!*

Hey friends! We have this bonded trio that Whit is hoping to find a home for where they can be together. They were hatched on the DL by hens outside of the brooding coop and brought in for their safety as she found them. So they have not been part of the flock and have been together since. They are each about a week apart. One is an Ayam Cemani and silkie cross, one is a silkie cochin, and the other is a silkie easter egger. Shes asking $20 for all 3. If you'd like to start your flock or grow your flock, these guys will be a great addition. Each will be beautiful in their own way. They all have feathered feet with the smallest having a lot of feathering on her feet. We do suspect the cochin cross may be a roo. So please consider that.

I made my chicks a picnic table out of popsicle sticks! I think they liked it 😊

Whit's philosophy when hatching chicks is that its best to leave them with the hen for the first week. This is a critical time where they learn proper scratching and pecking as well as functioning within an established flock. Unless necessary she keeps them together. This takes more time and costs her more with feed and what not, but for her it's not just about money. It's about what's best for the little lives that have come to be at Silkie Farms.

So far she has 9 wittle babies that will be available soon!

Friends! Whit has progressed quicker than I thought she would. They're ready for her to start welding her trailer as soon as we get the materials 😃. Is there anywhere that does discounts for kids in FFA? Or do I have any friends in the business that can tell me the most affordable place to go for these parts? Or are all places the same? Idk anything about this stuff 😬

She can get started with the top half of materials, so those are most important to get right now. I thought they'd have her practicing a while longer 😅 on the flip side she's been doing great and I love that they're confident in her abilities. She will be doing a 6x12 trailer with a bi-fold ramp gate. I know the pic is hard to see but this is what she needs (top half) to get started:
3x2 3/16" angle
4x8 1/4" flat plate
4x3 angle 1/4"
2 3/8 pipe
2" 11 ga
4x8 exp metal
Hinges

Hey friends! Here are some of my chickens looking for new coops. If you want to add to your flock please let us know. Low asking price to help them find new flocks and raise money for my next Ag Mech project. Thank you
