🐝 Bee Knowledge Bite: How Bees Beat the Summer Heat

Did you know honey bees have their own built-in air conditioning system?

Even when temperatures soar outside, honey bees work together to keep the hive at a comfortable 95°F, the ideal temperature for raising healthy brood. Worker bees collect water and spread tiny droplets throughout the hive while other bees rapidly fan their wings, creating airflow that cools the colony through evaporation.

It's an incredible example of teamwork—and another reminder of just how amazing these tiny pollinators truly are. If you'd like to lend local bees a helping hand this summer, consider placing a shallow dish of fresh water outside with a few pebbles or marbles so they have a safe place to land while they drink.

Bee's Wrap ReKindle® Fire Starters are made from Bee's Wrap scraps that have been repurposed into natural, water-resistant fire starters. Perfect for lighting campfires, fireplaces, and wood stoves, they offer a long, slow burn with very little smoke.

🐝 Bee Knowledge Bite: How Do Different Honey Varieties Get Their Flavor?

Every honey variety starts with flowers! Bees collect nectar from blooming plants, and the type of flower they visit gives honey its unique flavor, color, and aroma. That’s why Raspberry Honey tastes completely different from Orange Blossom, Wildflower, or Blackberry Honey.

To create specific honey varieties, beekeepers carefully move their hives to large fields filled with one main blooming plant. Since bees can fly up to 5 miles in search of nectar and pollen, placing hives near concentrated blooms helps bees gather mostly from that floral source — creating the distinct flavors, colors, and aromas that make each honey unique.
