Quick lamb and pasture update this morning, the sheep moved to a new pasture this morning and got a new sun shelter! I used to think that calves were the nosiest animal possible, but these lambs are running a very close second. 😂 I am still supplementing one of Bette‘s lambs with milk replacer but the other one seems to be getting everything that she needs from her mom. Bette‘s milk is coming in, but I’m not quite sure about the supply. She actually won’t let the lambs nurse when I’m in the field, so we held her and put the lambs on her yesterday just to make sure she had milk and that they knew exactly how to get it.

Mason is still recovering from joint ill but is doing much better. He still has a limp and some swelling on his right knee, which I’m hoping will go down overtime. There is a chance that it won’t, and the damage would be permanent. He got a second shot of antibiotics yesterday so I’m hoping he can get on his way to a full recovery. He is such a sweet boy and will be staying here on the farm forever.

Thanks so much for everyone’s prayers and wishes for little Mason! He is so much better today! He’s actually walking around and grazing like a lamb. Everyone got their scrapie tags and the boys were banded today. For some reason, I don’t mind giving vaccinations, but I hate doing ear tags and definitely hate banding.

So I’m coming to terms with the fact that I now have another set of bottle twins. For whatever reason, Bette is not bagging up even though she had zero issue with nursing Shawn about a year and a half ago. We kind of suspected so we started giving colostrum yesterday and I switched them over to milk replacer at 11 AM today. So, these two nuggets will be on our 3 to 4 hour bottle feeding rotation. I’m just thankful that we learned so much with Mason and Madison that we went ahead and started the colostrum as soon as possible.

Yukon and Pepper have been incredibly patient while we’ve been obsessed with these lambs. It was so nice to just hang out at the pond today for a little bit and throw Yukon‘s stick. It’s taking him a couple of years to have the confidence to get out and swim. He used to just splash along the bank. ❤️

For those of you who’ve shipped livestock, anything extra for me to do on the front end to help limit their stress? Our Hog Island ewe lambs are going to Maryland at weaning. It’s a long way from Kentucky.

Welp, that’s a wrap on 2026 lambing unless Spottie surprises us in the next few weeks. Betty had two adorable ewe lambs today around 2 on her own. She’s a great mom ❤️
