I've been meaning to touch base with my former, wonderful customers for quite a while now. Christmas was crazy busy but the New Year has never been a big deal to me, especially since we were stuck doing inventory for so many years. So, this morning, in the predawn peace, I thought I'd say hello! I'm doing well and I hope the same for all of you! 2024 kept me pretty busy as I laid tons of mulch and maintained Paul's beautiful garden. My Mother's Day gift was this beautiful stone that I placed at the very front of the flower beds, as they will always be his labor of love. I also joined my local Eagles Club which is right down the road from my house and I met many wonderful new friends. On July 4th, family and friends gathered for a holiday brunch on my patio. I didn't wander far from home all summer because my mom, who many of you probably remember as a former Heritage employee, had began to badly decline. We spent many hours at the nursing home as she failed to thrive. In late August I did get away for a quick trip to the shores of Lake Huron, praying the entire time that I didn't get an emergency call. On September 6th, I turned the big 70. The celebration was low key but lovely as my mom was in her final days. On September 15th, in the wee morning hours, she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 102! In late October, I journeyed with my son to Sault Ste. Marie to check on the cottage, which we hadn't been able to tend to in far too long. It was unexplainably wonderful to finally be there again and thankfully the old place was no worse than the last time we were there. I hosted Thanksgiving as is tradition and learned to make gallettes. For that particular holiday it was an apple masterpiece lol. My granddaughter, Isla, sang the lead to close her school's Christmas program and I spent Christmas Eve with my little family, including my wonderful only child! I try to walk my 1.7 mile course as often as possible and get into some crazy workouts with my gymmast granddaughter. I've reunited with old friends and look forward to what 2025 brings. Many blessings for a year that brings the miraculous peace of Christ your way. He's the only reason I've made it through these last two years, happy and whole. Love, Debie

Have you been down to see the Shine Bright Project on Niagara St. yet?? If not, at this point, you may want to give it a few more days as the project is nearing completion. Here's a shot of the side that faces the river and yours truly showing just how massive these silos are in comparison to a teeny human. Very soon, you'll be able to see it finished from both sides. Give it a few days and get over there!!! It's breathtaking!

Good morning! I wanted to talk to you today about spaghetti squash! Full of vitamins and minerals, low carb and low calorie, it's the vegetable that just keeps on giving! Two days ago I roasted a larger one with a standard, googled recipe. After scraping out the strands, I had two helpings of traditional spaghetti with sauce and parmesan. Yesterday, I had a small amount as a side dish, simply seasoned with a bit of butter, s and p. And finally, this morning, my breakfast consisted of crispy, savory, spaghetti squash pancakes! You can't get more economical than this and the serving suggestions are endless! Go get yourself a big fat spaghetti squash and remember, the Saginaw Farmers' Market will be opening soon!

Celebrate Cinco De Mayo with this delicious guac from Aldi. While it's not organic, it's a wonderful source of healthy fat and every single ingredient is a recognizable food. No, I haven't become an Aldi spokesperson lol. Just finding some great stuff there lately.

Good morning! I've been getting lots of exercise laying mulch and wood chips! I'll post again when there's many flowers in bloom. Oh, and Aldi has organic strawberries, a product of the USA for just $3.99. They are so big, I thought they might not be sweet but I'm definitely NOT disappointed! It's finally May!!

Good morning! I posted a picture of the spinach salad I served on Easter, both on my personal page and on a food group that I belong to. It got so many great responses that I decided to share my homemade dressing recipe with all of you. I may have shared this in the past but it was long ago. First, the salad is baby spinach, sliced organic strawberries, thinly sliced red onion feta and slivers of maple glazed pecans. Formerly available at HNF, now found at Meijer, these are not nearly as good of a product but 🤷. ANYWAY....Debie's Dressing...1/2 cup Balsamic Vinegar, 1/2 cup olive oil, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1 tablespoon honey mustard or maple mustard (formerly sold at HNF, now available at My Secret Garden in Bay City, according to their website.) 1/2 teaspoon salt...bring the vinegar to a boil, then simmer until it reduces to approximately 1/2 of the amount...stir frequently. Let it cool and then pour into a shaker jar. Add the olive oil, maple syrup, mustard and salt and shake well. Do NOT skip the salt. It makes all the difference. Enjoy on salads and sandwiches!!

Important PSA: Unless your blender or food processor has a glass container, DO NOT pour hot soup in it to cream it!! This is just as toxic, if not more, as bottled water that's been left in a hot car, etc. There's alot of questions these days about plastic containers period, but we KNOW hot liquid has the capacity to absorb the toxins that are leached out of plastic!! PLEASE invest in an immersion blender!!
