🌱 Farm Report: The Great Loofah Takeover & Other Garden Shenanigans 🌱
Well folks, the farm is officially in that magical season where we're harvesting daily, watering daily, and praising God daily for the incredible bounty He continues to provide. Every morning starts with coffee, chores, and a stroll through what can only be described as a botanical circus.
The Loofahs Have Taken Control
Let's start with the greenhouse.
Our loofah vines have apparently mistaken the greenhouse for a race track and are nearly the entire length of it. We currently have around 10 loofahs growing, and yes, they all have names. Once you spend enough time admiring them, you start realizing they all have distinct personalities.
At this rate we're just a few weeks away from electing a Loofah Mayor.
Hornworm Hunting Season
The annual battle against the dreaded hornworms continues.
Thankfully, daily inspections have allowed me to catch them while they're still tiny. It's become a competitive sport. Every morning I patrol the tomato jungle like a highly trained agricultural ninja, searching for those little green tomato thieves before they can cause trouble.
The score currently stands:
Farmers: Winning Hornworms: Not having a great year
Tomato Wrangler Extraordinaire
Meanwhile, Scott has taken on the role of Chief Tomato Management Officer.
The tomatoes have become wildly ambitious this year and seem determined to grow in every direction except the direction they're supposed to. Scott spends time daily tying them up, redirecting them, and reminding them who is actually in charge.
The tomatoes are unconvinced.
The Jalapeño Explosion
Last night I harvested 5½ dozen jalapeños from just four plants.
Let me repeat that.
Five and a half dozen.
From four plants.
This doesn't even include the mountain of peppers we already processed over the weekend. At this point we're considering whether we've accidentally started a commercial pepper farm.
If anyone sneezes near the garden, they may leave with a bag of jalapeños.
The Strawberry Secret
I am pleased to announce that I have discovered the secret to successful strawberry production.
After extensive research, trial, error, careful observation, and scientific analysis, I learned that the secret is:
Actually watering them and feeding them.
Groundbreaking stuff.
Now they're producing bowlfuls every day, and we're wondering how we ever doubted them.
The Magical Bean Tunnel
The magical bean tunnel is everything I dreamed it would be and more.
Not only are we harvesting beans every single day, but they somehow seem to grow back faster than we can pick them.
The tunnel itself is beautiful, covered in lush green vines with solar lights woven throughout. Unfortunately, the lights are only visible when we're out watering before dawn, but honestly, there's something pretty special about walking through a glowing bean tunnel while the rest of the world is still asleep.
It's like entering a secret garden... that also happens to provide dinner.
Real Carrots! REAL CARROTS!
In one of the year's most shocking developments, we harvested two entire beds of rainbow carrots, and they were actually carrot-sized.
Veteran gardeners will understand why this is exciting.
We've all planted hopeful carrot seeds and harvested colorful toothpicks before.
Not this year.
This year we grew honest-to-goodness carrots. We were so inspired that we immediately replanted both the carrot and lettuce beds for another round.
Herb Headquarters
The basil and herb garden are thriving beyond expectations.
In fact, they're doing so well that Scott is now building me a solar-powered herb dryer so we can keep up with processing everything.
I married the right man.
I'll be sure to share photos when his latest engineering masterpiece is complete.
Coming Soon: Potatoes and Onions
The onions and potatoes are sizing up nicely and should be ready for harvest soon.
Every day we peek at them and wonder if today is the day.
Harvest anticipation is a real thing.
Duck Department Update
The ducks continue to exceed expectations and are currently producing about a dozen eggs a day.
It's safe to say the duck union is fulfilling its production quotas.
Looking Ahead
As if this season hasn't been exciting enough, we're already discussing next year's expansions, improvements, and lessons learned. Every season teaches us something new, and every season somehow convinces us to make the project bigger.
Because apparently that's what gardeners do.
We're also hoping to get a little produce stand up and running soon. Time and resources are the biggest hurdles right now, but the dream is definitely alive and well.
Until next time, we'll be harvesting, watering, feeding strawberries, chasing hornworms, naming loofahs, and enjoying every minute of this wonderfully chaotic farm life.
God continues to bless us abundantly, and we're grateful for every pepper, bean, carrot, egg, and loofah that comes our way. ❤️🚜🌱🥕🦆🥒
