MAKING A DIFFERENCE THROUGH ART

Don't forget to catch the UP/REcycled Art art exhibit now through the end of the month at the Ritz Theater in downtown Brunswick (during regular theater hours).

Encouraging creative and non-traditional waste reduction options, KGIB again joined forces with the Golden Isles Arts & Humanities Association to bring this unique annual exhibit to life.

Students and local artists turn trash into treasure by creating imaginative works of art or making functional items from a variety of recyclable materials including paper, plastic, fabric, wood and more.

Happy International Bat Appreciation Day! 🦇 Did you know Georgia is home to 16 different bat species, all of which feed exclusively on insects? 🦟

The tri-colored bat featured here, which is listed as "Proposed Endangered" due to its rapid decline in many parts of the state, is one of several species that have been captured, studied, and released during annual surveys completed at Cannon's Point Preserve. Other species that have been documented at the Preserve include the northern yellow bat (a Georgia species of concern), Seminole bat, evening bat, and big brown bat.

All bat species play a critical role in our ecosystems by helping to control insect populations and acting as pollinators. We are grateful to provide these mammals with large tracts of protected maritime forest where they can thrive! 🌳
