After 18 years, we're retiring from farming! This Saturday, August 3rd will be our last market. It's been quite a journey, and we're so thankful for our amazing customers and farm friends. We'll still be around, and you'll probably see us frequenting the market as customers, or just around town.

The Kuenzi family from Red Wagon Farm is buying many of our laying hens, so you can still find great eggs at the Silverton Farmers Market.

Thank you for all your support over the years

We'll be at the Silverton Farmers Market tomorrow with fresh pasture-raised chicken and eggs. Looking forward to another great season!

The Outdoor Silverton Farmers Market begins tomorrow, Saturday, May 11th from 9-1pm at Town Square Park.

There will be tons of great Mothers' Day food items including fresh strawberries, freshly baked bread and pastries, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, beautiful salad fixings including edible flowers, eggs, meats, pasta... Does this sound like a super terrific brunch? Oh yes, it does! Top it all off with freshly cut flowers, potted plants, veggie starts, ceramic gifts, tickets to the home garden tour, a share in the Food Co-Op, and/or so much more!!

Mom's going to LOVE this and so will YOU! Come hear great live music and enjoy your day with us!

At the first summer market of the season, which is coming up Saturday May 11th, we will have FRESH chicken and plenty of eggs! So this is the time to send us your special butchering requests (cut, split, feet, giblets, etc). Since we emptied our freezers this winter, we expect a lot of you are ready for chickens again, so please send us your requests as soon as possible. Our next butcher date will be June 7, and we hope to have frozen chickens available at the market between those two dates. The cost is only $4.50/lb and the chickens usually weigh 3-5lbs each.

Thank you so much for your support! We're looking forward to a great season at the Silverton Farmers Market 🙂

Mike's heading to the butcher on Friday, which means we'll have FRESH chicken at Saturday's market! It also means that now is the time to let us know if you have any special butchering requests like cut, split, feet, giblets, necks, etc.

Here's a recipe from Food Network. I'm thinking about trying it this weekend:

Mike's headed to the butcher on Friday, which means two things... First, there will be FRESH chicken at the Silverton Farmers Market on Saturday. Second, it's time for you to send us your order if you'd like any special butchering requests (like cut, split, giblets, feet, etc).

This weekend looks great for grilling, so here's a recipe to try from Add A Pinch:

I'll admit it, for a person who cooks a chicken once a week, I've always been afraid to make fried chicken. I think it's the hot oil, but it might be the idea that my skills aren't up to par. I'm determined though, I'm going to try it, even if I have to get a tutorial from my BFF, who makes a great fried chicken. Here's some instructions from the New York Times that I'm going to study in preparation: https://cooking.nytimes.com/guides/25-how-to-make-fried-chicken

And Mike's headed to the butcher on Friday, which means we'll have FRESH chicken Saturday June 9th at the Silverton Farmers Market, so now is the time to send us your order, especially if you have special butchering requests like cut (for frying), split, feet, necks, giblets, etc. The deadline for special orders is 5pm Thursday, June 7.

For a remarkably simple dish, fried chicken can be controversial. There are debates over brining the meat (yes, you should). People argue over what starch is used to coat the chicken, about the fat used to fry it, about the temperature at which it cooks. But really all you want is what the great Sou...

And just like that, the market season is starting again... Mike's headed to the butcher on Friday, so we'll have FRESH chicken at the first market of 2018 on Saturday May 12. Let us know here or via email at [email protected] if you'd like to pre-order your chickens, or have special butchering requests (like cut-up, with giblets, or necks, feet, etc). And while you're deciding what to order, take a look at this gorgeous orange herb roasted chicken recipe from Allrecipes.com. Doesn't it sound amazing? See you Saturday at the Market!

This whole roasted chicken turns out terrifically flavorful and tender, and the broth left in the bottom is a perfect gravy in itself!
