2 turkey babies, born the same day. Both are from our closed flock of pure bourbon red turkeys...... Notice a color difference?

The darker one is how they are suppose to present in color when hatched.... The light one? Leucistic.

Leucistic is a rare variant of the breed. It causes partial or total loss of pigment, resulting in white, pale, or patchy plumage. Unlike albinos who lack all pigment, leucistic will maintain their dark eyes and normal color feet/legs. It does not affect the health of the bird or the longevity of their life, it simply changes their color pattern.

Last year we had a random genetic showing of the leucistic variant when hatching our turkeys.... we had a leucistic turkey hatch, and I went down a rabbit hole about it and in return decided to keep that turkey in our breeding. Now her babies are popping out leucistic as well!
