Garden of Health

Garden of Health The community garden is designed to serve community members in need by providing access to fresh organic fruits and vegetables.

Volunteers are needed to help in different areas of the garden including manual labor (mulching, irrigation, cleanup) and helping lead educational classes and workshops to local families and community members. Volunteer hours vary by activity and events planned for each week.

An interesting way to deal with spider mites and aphids ๐Ÿžโค๏ธ!

๐Ÿž Ladybugs are garden heroes! ๐Ÿž They feed on pests such as aphids and spider mites that might otherwise snack on your plants.

Using natural pest predators such as ladybugs as an alternative to chemical pesticides helps keep harmful chemicals out of the environment and our waterways. This is one way to implement Integrated Pest Management into your gardening practice!

Turn your fallen leaves into mulch! Avoid having them go into the storm drain and clog things up ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚.

Turn your fallen leaves into mulch! Avoid having them go into the storm drain and clog things up ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚.

Fallen leaves may feel like a nuisance in the yard, but don't let them onto the street where they can clog the storm drain! Instead, consider using them for mulch! When shredded or chopped, leaf mulch:
๐Ÿ‚ improves soil by feeding earthworms and beneficial microbes
๐Ÿ‚ keeps soil warmer in cool months
๐Ÿ‚ suppresses w**d growth
๐Ÿ‚ reduces erosion
๐Ÿ‚ prevents leaves from clogging our storm drains

This week we had a few dozen Loma Linda University Health students and some community volunteers help tidy up our garden this week. Also, we were able to get our main production area up and running. Thank you to all that participated and LLU CAPS for their support.
