In the spirit of Farmers' Market Week, Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association’s Executive Director, Allen Moy, shares our association’s updated mission statement, and reflects on our progress over the last few decades ✨
PCFMA officially began in 1988, with a small public market format in Emeryville, California. Over the years, we’ve grown in size and in spirit, and are now operating 35 weekly farmers’ market locations around the Bay Area, with a team of nearly 40 dedicated individuals.
Our association is rooted in the Bay Area, and we feel it is only right that our mission reflects that. Watch our latest video to hear our new mission statement, and why local farmers’ markets are so important to our communities!

Effective April 1st, Market Match will return to a maximum daily match of up to $10 for CalFresh redeemed at the market.
The CalFresh/EBT and Market Match programs have been enormously successful during these difficult pandemic times, stretching food dollars where it is needed. The Market Match program is a California initiative that relies on funding from state and federal partners, and the budget for the program is allocated yearly. This year, due to the program’s popularity, providers are already utilizing a much larger portion of the budget than anticipated . Therefore, this change in policy is to help ensure that Market Match funding will continue at the farmers' market through the rest of 2022.

More information regarding this update can be found at pcfma.org/market-match.

It's time for another Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association feature ✨ Meet Cody! Another longtime PCFMA Market Manager, Cody has been with us for about 10 years now - but his experience in the farmers’ markets actually started long before we met him. Cody started helping his mom sell her own handcrafted soaps at the market over 20 years ago - and the two of them still enjoy working together at the Pinole Farmers' Market every Saturday! ☀️
Cody is known and loved around the office for being someone who’s always willing to lend a helping hand - and for having the best staff photo on our website! 📸Simply put, he is great and our markets are lucky to have him 💚
Get to know more about Cody all week by following on Facebook and Instagram!

Join us in taking a look behind the scenes of the Pacific Coast Farmers' Market Association 'Beyond the Market' video series ✨
We set out to help educate students about some of the different specialty crops you see at the farmers' markets, and the unique ways in which they can be grown, sold, and prepared. Over the course of the year, our team visited 13 farms, more than 10 farmers’ markets, and hosted 18 live cooking demonstrations.
Along the way, we learned more than we ever expected to about what it means to be a small farmer in California today 💚

Happy January, folks ✨ This month, we’re diving in and learning more about Bay Area fishing and aquaculture! 🐟 We're featuring small fisheries and farmers at your local farmers’ markets because the United Nations General Assembly has declared 2022 the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022). The year will “focus attention on the role that small fisheries and aqua-farmers have in minimizing food insecurity and poverty and promoting sustainable fishing on a small scale.”
Read more about aquaculture and its impacts on the farmers' market at the link above!
