Sign Hill Honey

Sign Hill Honey Supporting sustainable and natural beekeeping in San Francisco All proceeds go back into caring for our bees and into the quality of the honey our bees produce.

To support our sustainable and natural beekeeping practice in SF, we promote and sell our local raw honey. To ensure quality, our honey comes straight from the hive and does not undergo any commercial processing or blending. Needless to say, from a culinary perspective SF honey is very floral diverse. We lack the temperatures to cultivate single source blooms so the bees work many different variet

ies of floral sources. The only major flow we have is the eucalyptus bloom. Even more challenging are our temperatures and wind, the bees work hard for every drop and it is superb. Of course I'm biased. Why are honeybees so important in our communities?
• Honeybees perpetuate biodiversity
• Bees give us the gift of honey
• Bees pollinate nutritious food
• Buzzing bees deliver beautiful flowers
• Honeybees remind us that despite our differences, we all need each other

Our Story

Our local tall stands of eucalyptus with wildflower and chaparral produce a honey that is light in color with floral highlights of eucalyptus and wildflower. In order to maintain our beekeeping endeavors, we promote our raw unfiltered, unheated honey locally. Our honey comes straight from the hive and does not undergo any commercial processing. By contributing, you are helping to encourage local and sustainable beekeeping. Some notes on our honey: The honey has not been heated or filtered - just raw honey strained through a mesh so that it still has some pollen. Our bees are cared for using natural and organic methods; we have never used any synthetic pesticides in our beehives. Honey varies seasonally based on the floral source that the bees are working, so slight differences in flavor and color are possible. Since our honey is unfiltered it will crystallize over time; just think of it as no mess ‘honey butter.’ To revive crystallized honey place the jar in a bowl of hot water until the honey is smooth, 5~10 minutes. Do not overheat the honey as this will impact the flavor. Honey is bottled in glass mason jars that you can reused in canning, storing or as drinking glasses. Since we do not heat our honey the two-piece lids do have a "pop" sound when you push on them; this is not a sign of spoilage. Our bees gather nectar and pollen from a wide variety of floral sources in San Francisco Peninsula.
