Shoppers find amazing prices and variety. Many San Franciscans affectionately know the Alemany Certified Farmers’ Market as “the people’s market”. This down-home moniker speaks to Alemany’s affordable prices and bustling community atmosphere, but most of all to its long history in the City and the consistent public support that has enjoyed.

Meet Hui! ✨ Hui joined the Foodwise team in January 2026 as our Assistant Market Manager at Alemany Farmers Market and Mission Community Market. Watch as he stops by one of his favorite booths in the market, Dumpling King!

As Assistant Market Manager, Hui coordinates office supplies for the market, manages the info booth, and ensures shoppers receive food benefits like EBT and Market Match. He also facilitates vendor loading and unloading and helps guide shoppers to their favorite stalls.

💬 “Our favorite part about the Alemany Farmers Market is the diversity that the market offers. We have always received great support from everyone at Alemany from staff to customers.”

Adrian and Esmeralda Mondragon bought their farm in 2012, but their farming tradition runs much deeper. Adrian is the third generation of Mondragon farmers. He grew up working on his parents’ berry farm, but he and his wife Esmerelda decided to diversify when they started urbnorganics. On their 22-acre farm in Watsonville, they now grow a variety of vegetables and berries, which they sell at the Alemany Farmers Market on Saturdays. 🍓

This National Farmers Market Week (August 2-8), we’re celebrating Alemany Farmers Market, the oldest farmers market in California! 🎉

California’s first farmers market was established in the 1940s in response to the strain that World War II placed on the local food system. Since then, it has grown into the beloved institution affectionately known as “The People’s Market,” connecting generations of San Franciscans with the region’s diverse food shed.
