Captain has been out on San Francisco Bay chasing local halibut for Four Star. Fish are just starting to move inshore right now as the water warms.

His words: “Tough finding them right now, but I had a good test run the other day and caught a few fish. It was great to be out of the rain. I’m still waiting for local bait season to start, and weather is a factor too. The other day we went out with blue skies in the morning (second pic) and a couple hours in the fog showed up (third pic). Things are gunna heat up and I’ll have a ton of ike jime fish for you soon!! Boat is all fixed up and ready to go, I’m grateful for my mechanic!!”

Every halibut Wade catches for us is hook and line caught and ike jime handled right on his boat, the F/V Offset (a 1990 Boston Whaler). He’s back out this week… we’ll keep you posted.

What you’re looking at is the helm of the F/V Offset, Captain Wade Jarmel’s 1990 Boston Whaler, fresh out of a full offseason refit ahead of local ike jime halibut season that starts in just a few weeks.

This winter, Wade replaced the entire wiring harness, which he described as working on the spinal cord of the boat, upgraded to a new Lowrance chart plotter, and repainted the full interior with gelcoat paint. The exterior got a full new paint job too.

The bay water is already warming faster than last season. Wade is almost back on the water. He said “we’ve done so much work already to start fishing… we go through a lot of repairs every year since most of our boats are all older hulls. One day we’ll have a nice new boat.” 🎣
