Hey there, friends of Pinko's Vegan Mercantile!! I know it's been a long time since you last heard from me. I have a very good reason and someday I'll tell it to you.

But, for now, I wanted to let you know I've organized a little Vegan Pop Up Shop and Brunch (in SF!) and I'd love it if you'd come. It's this coming weekend, December 7th & 8th and it's sure to be phenomenal. So many great folks bringing awesome things for you to buy and eat, or wear, or give as gifts.

And, BRUNCH!! Two days with two different menus and chefs.

Did I mention Miyoko Schinner and her cheese will be here? How about Josh Hooten and The Herbivore Clothing Company all the way from Prtland, Orgeon! Melodi Brooke Donahue and Obsessive Confection Disorder will be in the house with LOTS of deliciousness. Rhizocali Tempeh will be here with locally made, handcrafted tempeh! Blake Karamazov and Swagger Cosmetics will have tons of glitter for your glam. Two 2 cents button co will be here with a bonanza of buttons to make and take. Lauren Ornelas of Food Empowerment Project will be here with tons of good info and neat things. And I'll be hosting a lil' Pinko's table with some of my hard-to-find vegan faves, including chocolates from Lagusta's Luscious and a Gift Certificate Marketplace for all your holiday gift-giving needs.

AND!! JUST ADDED TODAY, Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart and Vaute Couture will be here with a Pop-Up Salon both afternoons. She'll be showing her new line and doing custom fittings for all your cruelty-free fashion needs.

I would love to hear some thoughts on this. We would have used UNFI to get a majority of products stocked at Pinko's Vegan Mercantile. I'm really disappointed to read this depressing news. I'm not at all psyched about giving this company any money. How would you/do you as customers feel about supporting these tactics? What about vendors, how do you feel about having to use these folks to distribute your products? Other vegan grocers, how do you feel? Anyone have some good ideas about what we can do, or alternatives to be used?

Hello, friends of Pinko's! I'm not saying anything about anything because we've learned nothing is anything until it's truly something, right? That said, we need some service providers and we love to support vegan biz folk whenever we can. So, if you are (or you know) a CPA/Tax person, a small biz lawyer, a Bay Area-based contractor, *please* get in touch.

I am sitting across the street from a space we're considering. I'm checkin' out all the things, getting a feel for whether or not it's a Pinko's kinda place. I'll be off to the Planning Department in a bit to see what they think of our idea. Cross your fingers! :)

Oh, and while you're just sitting there with your fingers crossed, would you have a look at this indiegogo fundraiser our good friend, Mel at Obsessive Confection Disorder is doing? If you've had Mel's concoctions, then you absolutely know why the world needs more of them. If you haven't had her magic in your mouth, I just shed a tear for you. Aside from making the most incredible caramels, Mel is an awesome vegan lady. When we announced we were opening Pinko's she emailed and offered to volunteer her time to help us move in, or build stuff, or feed us, or dance around and make us laugh. She also offered us furniture and fixtures and absolutely any other help we could use. She is a caramel-making machine and a vegan angel. She was tickled when I told her that an article I read about her business inspired me to keep trying with ours. I wish I had $1,000 to donate so I could get her to make my most favorite candy ever—a vegan Toffifay! Alas, I cannot buy my own candy, but we will be donating because every dollar Mel gets, she turns into magical liquid gold worth far more than just a dollar! I

We used to tak about getting one of those burned wood signs for the shop. Well, we came to the fair today and the wood sign booth was there, so we decided to get one. We get to pick it up shortly. I wonder how it will look.

Our friends at The Herbivore Clothing Company in Portland are considering printing up some shirts with this design. What's your take? Would you wear one? Read the comments on their post if you'd like insight into the motivation behind the design. We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Do you all know about Nooch | Vegan Market in Denver? They are awesome and we're super excited about their soon-to-open new shop. They've recently started a kickstarter campaign to raise funds for some of their equipment and inventory costs. Hi all! I wanted to let you know about some exciting stuff a few friends of Pinko's have going on. Our delightful intern/assitant/chef, Kyle, has started a page for his new personal chef business. We've eaten Kyle's food and now we're just sitting around counting the minutes until we can get some more in our mouths!
