It’s that easy to make the call to ! ☎️ Watch our Executive Director Christine E. Farren contact state leaders using the call tool at savemarketmatch.org.

🏛️ Next Monday, June 15, California’s budget will be finalized. While we’re grateful the Assembly’s draft budget includes funding for Market Match, the Senate’s and Governor’s drafts currently do NOT, which means this vital food security program will end in 2027

🥕 Market Match doubles low-income shoppers’ EBT benefits at California farmers markets, providing fresh, healthy food for familes in need, and essential income for small local farms. It’s a clear win-win for everyone.

📢 With the June 15 deadline fast approaching, the time is now to make your voice heard. Please urge state leaders and the Governor to fund Market Match. Go to the link in our bio or head to savemarketmatch.org TODAY!

With the state budget deadline approaching next week, now is the time to help ! Market Match is one of California's most effective tools for fighting hunger and supporting local farms, but it's at risk of disappearing. With recent cuts to SNAP, this would be devastating for families and farmers.

The California Assembly and Senate released their versions of the 2026-27 budget, and we're grateful that the Assembly's draft budget included $15 million for the California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP), which funds Market Match. HOWEVER, the Senate's and Governor's draft budgets still do not include any funding for Market Match. This means the program is still in jeopardy of ending.

With the state budget deadline looming on June 15, your calls and emails are urgently needed to Save Market Match. Tell the Senate and Governor to support our 2026-27 budget request at a minimum of $20 million for CNIP to keep Market Match operational and supporting CalFresh shoppers and small family farmers during this difficult time.

If you've already called or emailed, please do so again with the updated message. If you haven't contacted legislators to save Market Match, you still can! 🔗 Take action at the link in our bio or savemarketmatch.org TODAY to make your voice heard.

Just announced! ⭐️ This Sunday, June 7, at Juneteenth on the Waterfront, get ready for a delicious cooking demo with Chef Dontaye Ball of ! 🥘 Stop by the Foodwise Classroom at 12pm to watch him make Peaches and Cream Hoe Cakes, and be sure to stop by his booth for delicious po’boys, gumbo, and more.

To Chef Dontaye, gumbo equals jazz—in that a lot of different players contribute, but no two solos are the same. He firmly believes that the pot should taste as the cook is feeling at that moment. And right now, he’s feeling better than ever. In 2022, Chef Dontaye opened Gumbo Social, his first brick-and-mortar, at 5176 3rd St. in San Francisco’s Bayview.

Gumbo Social was one of our original participants in the first Juneteenth on the Waterfront in 2021, and we’ve been honored to have Gumbo Social as regular participant at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market and Pop-Ups on the Plaza in years since. Join us in celebrating Chef Dontaye as he says goodbye to the farmers market to turn his focus to his acclaimed restaurant.

➡️ Dontaye’s cooking demo will be followed by a demo and book signing with Chef Nelson German and at 1pm. (Chef Tatiana Thomas of Josephine’s Southern Cuisine unfortunately had a scheduling conflict, but we hope to have her back for a demo soon.)

With the costs of labor, hand harvesting, gas mileage, utilities, and more, paying the bills while keeping prices accessible for shoppers is a delicate balancing act for farmers. As the cost of living increases, affordability is top of mind for everyone, and farmers are no exception.

Don't let Market Match disappear! 📢 Last week, Governor Newsom released his May Revision of the 2026–27 California State Budget, which included NO renewed funding for , an essential program that doubles shopper's CalFresh EBT benefits at farmers markets across the state, making fresh, healthy food affordable for all.

🥬 Without renewed funding by June 15, the Market Match program will end in March 2027, cutting off critical food access for California families and income for small family farms. At a time of soaring food costs and reductions to SNAP, Market Match is vital to food security, health equity, and keeping our local farm economies thriving.
