A Thoughtful Family Update — and a New Chapter of Purpose
Dear friends and community,
We wanted to share an important update with gratitude, clarity, and excitement for what comes next.
After much thought, our family has decided to offer HillTop Kitchen for sale. This is a family decision, made with care, timing, and long-term planning.
HillTop Kitchen at the Village is absolutely NOT closing — we remain open, active, and growing as we take our time to find the right buyer.
HillTop has always been a family business, with everyone playing a role in its growth, operations, food, events, and service to the community.
Over the past several months, Sattie Persaud — owner Gita’s sister — transitioned from the corporate world and was able to spend more time supporting the family business alongside Gita and the team. During this time, HillTop Kitchen introduced a brand-new menu, expanded its event offerings, and brought meaningful growth in private parties, live celebrations, small weddings, community events, and special occasions, including the Detectives’ Awards annual event.
People are now coming to HillTop Kitchen not only from our local area, but from across Connecticut, New York, Boston, and beyond for food, events, and celebrations.
We are proud of that growth, and we believe HillTop Kitchen has even more potential ahead.
At the same time, our family continues to operate Dodgingtown Market & Deli and Dodgingtown Craft & Spirits in Newtown. Through hard work and dedication, the deli now offers pizza, a brand-new coffee bar, and has grown more than 40% from last year — requiring more time and focus from owner Gita and her daughter.
As a family, we are looking carefully at where our time, energy, and long-term focus can be best placed across our businesses and commitments.
This decision also comes during a larger season of growth for our family’s mission-driven work.
For more than 20 years, Sattie Persaud has built the World Heritage Cultural Center (WHCC), a nonprofit dedicated to celebrating and preserving cultural heritage through music, dance, food, storytelling, education, and community. WHCC has worked with 850+ cultural groups and has always believed in creating a stage rooted in humanity, not status — where cultures can be celebrated with dignity.
That work has now expanded into the Human Intelligence Advisory Group, created to help organizations, institutions, universities, governments, health systems, companies, and communities think more deeply about how we keep humanity at the center in the age of AI — from global conversations to everyday workplaces.
WHCC also is in the soft launch space of an $8 million fundraising campaign to build a future WHCC Cultural and Human Intelligence Campus in the Northeast United States. Sattie’s work with the Centre for Resilience and Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge and related global engagement will also involve increased travel across Asia, Europe, South America, and beyond.
With all of this in mind, our family believes this is the right time to explore the next chapter for HillTop Kitchen and find a buyer who can give the restaurant, events, building, and community the dedicated attention and vision they deserve as the business continues to grow.
We are not in a rush. We care deeply about finding the right fit — someone who values the business, the building, the customers, and the community.
We are sharing this directly because our customers, neighbors, friends, and community have been part of our story. You deserve to hear it from us with honesty and gratitude.
HillTop Kitchen is open, growing, and ready for its next chapter.
WHCC is also ready for its next chapter.
Thank you for every meal shared, every event celebrated, every kind word, and every moment of support.
