Planting calendula for the cooler season!

These beautiful, cold tolerant flowers aren't just pretty, they're useful too. I'll be harvesting and drying blooms to make calendula infused oils and homemade salves traditionally used to soothe dry skin, bug bites, minor burns in everyday skin irritations. Another little step towards growing more of what I can use right here at home.

I harvested some of my hot peppers this morning and now I'm stuck with the realization that we don't need all these anymore. I use to grow for market and i no longer do markets, yet I still grow enough to sell. My freezer is still full from last year's peppers! This is definitely my last year of doing this. Sigh

Portulaca, also known as is my new favorite. I started all these lovelies by seeds and they began so tiny. They have turned into this gorgeous mounding, very vigorous flowers. I've learned that they only open in the morning and during the heat of the day they close. They seem to be a favorite over all the flowers in my garden for the bees.

We are so blessed with a thriving beautiful garden. 90% of this Garden was started by seed and I'm still amazed that after years of growing, how resilient plants are. They just keep reseeding themselves, saving me a lot of time of restarting plants. I'm so proud of our beautiful gardens and so grateful for what God has given us. Blessed be to God!

Squash bugs are one of the most destructive pest for squash, pumpkins zucchini, and other cucurbits like cucumbers. The adults are flat grayish and socks that lay clusters of bronze colored eggs on the undersides of leaves both the adults and young nymphs feed by piercing the plant and sucking out its sap. They're feeding causes yellow Speckles that quickly turns into brown crispy patches and leaves may wilt even when the soil is moist. Heavy infestations weaken the entire plant reduce fruit production and can eventually kill vines. Squash bugs can also spread disease between plants making early detection and control essential for a healthy garden.

The garden desperately needed rain after a long drought however too much rain causes a lot of damage I'm not complaining, but it's just the way it is. Time to start working on our fall crop and clean up

Bianca learned fast to fly to David for treats. She is a white rhode island and very friendly. Alina is a polish hen and loves David very much if you couldn't tell. We now have a total of 6 roosters!! They all have their own individual personalities. I honestly love roosters. The silkies remain small, so when they try and mound the girls, they get knocked off and chased. Haha!
