The turkey day countdown begins 😉

1. Dig out those comfy & stretchy clothes from last year so you’re ready 😂

2. Time to get those HUGE turkeys thawing. If your turkey weighs 20 lbs or more it should go in the fridge tonight or first thing tomorrow morning. As with all meats (especially poultry), safely thawing them is the first step in the process of producing the star of your thanksgiving feast. Check out the handy-dandy thawing guide below to make sure you aren’t in a panic Wednesday night 😳 (do not ask me how I know this 🤦🏻‍♀️)

3. This is also a good time to get those special groceries you only buy this time of year bought, ordered or delivered. Maybe it will cut down on the number of frantic trips to the store next week 😊

4. Breathe. Nothing is perfect and you don’t have to be either. Who cares if there is a bit less on the table this year? Or its a chicken or other protein instead of a turkey? Paper plates? Yes please 😃. Cranberry Log versus fresh? Perfectly acceptable.

Those beautiful tables we all are inundated with in photos and on social media are just that. Photos. Posed and designed/created to show an asthetic. The rest of us do the best we can and THAT is real life folks.

Remember and keep in mind it’s not WHAT is on the table but WHO is on the seats at the table. 🧡

Peace and a bit of advice, if possible steer conversations away from politics 😉😬.

Happy Monday all 😀. We have a few announcements to start the week off and to gear up for the holiday season.

1. We have managed to secure a high quality source of USDA Choice grade Ribeye Rolls and will be offering our Prime Rib Roasts this season for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The price is $19.00 lb. I will also be seasoning them per request that price stays at $5.00 flat and will include the oven safe bag + detailed cooking instructions. Please call (616) 897-4921 to get your name on the list to secure one for your holiday meal.

2. Our locally farm raised bulk beef (1/4's, 1/2's or whole) is staying at $4.00 lb. carcass weight which includes slaughter and processing for the time being and we are planning to stay at that price through the end of the year. However, please consider that our waiting list is getting longer and time frame is approximately 6 to 8 weeks at this time. The time for getting one before Christmas is growing short. You can call us at the above number or private message this page.

3. If you aren't ready or have room for bulk beef, we have our Meat Bundles for any budget (from $500 to $50) and they also make great gifts. Again, please call or message to order as they are only put together per order -- never before. The Bundles are listed at the top of this Page. We will also do custom orders as well.

4. A heartfelt Thank You to our awesome Customers for your patience and understanding this year. The calls and messages of concern and encouragement did not go unnoticed and were deeply appreciated.

Finally, I am officially back to work here at the shop and hoping to get back into the swing of things and be of help to Karen, our team member extraordinaire, who has been holding this place together, with duct tape, a wing and a prayer, while trying to keep Mr. in line in my absence. She was tasked far and above her pay grade and I am forever thankful to her for stepping up and in. Additionally, our daughter Felicia and our youngest team member Wyatt, took on more than their share of work and responsibility and were outstanding. And not to be forgotten, Kyle & Rory, our drivers who still kept things rollin'.

Most of all, I want to praise Mr (aka Phil to everyone else 😉) for his love, patience, compassion and understanding during this difficult year. He never complained once and in fact, was my constant source of comfort and encouragement. Honey, this could have never happened without you keeping all the things and the business going and managing the few hiccups we had.

Peace

Good morning and welcome to my kitchen on this Sunday morning. It’s been a weird weather weekend with highs in the 60’s Friday & Saturday and now back down to 40 today. Grab a cup of coffee and let’s chat 😃. Well I will, and since you’re on the other side of this screen, I’ll just share my random thoughts instead.

I posted a brief update Friday on our Pop-up Pantry. The response has been phenomenal and for that we are so grateful to our Pinkney Hill community of customers, friends, family and even strangers. Just shy of 30 family’s have reached out and received a Blessing Box.
We will continue to serve those in need for the forseeable future with what we currently have and I will replenish as needed with funds that have been donated.
Once that has been spent we will re-evaluate; however, we are not a pantry nor are we setup to be one long term and once SNAP has been funded and is available we will wind down this pop-up pantry. We will still offer our original small Blessing Bags with a limited amount of meat only.

HUGE THANK YOU to all who have supported and donated to this small little idea. Your support was NOT small. The impact was direct and helped make others in need feel seen, heard and cared about. Isn’t that what everyone wants?

I went to Christmas Thru Lowell with friends yesterday and it’s the first time I haven’t needed a jacket or winter gear in years! It was a good day starting with meeting up for breakfast then shopping at several venues interspersed with coffee breaks, snacks and greeting many familiar faces throughout the day. I found some things I can’t live without 😉, although Mr thinks we have survived just fine with the Christmas decor we already have 🙄 but realizes that after 47 years it is a pretty lame argument and just shakes his head, smart man that he is.

Today the plan is to do my Sunday reset of the house and start getting the holiday totes out of the garage and into the house (along with the new stuff). I like to take my time deciding where things will go this year and decorating for the holiday season. Since there is a late Lions game today the family won’t be coming over for dinner and the game so it’s the perfect day to start the “process”. They will be here next week Sunday followed 4 days later with Thanksgiving and then begins the holiday rush both at home and at the shop. I don’t know about you but it seems to me that once Thanksgiving is over time accelerates to warp speed and p**f! It’s Christmas before you know it. Some folks are dead set against Christmas decorating before Thanksgiving and that the day is not given its “due”. That’s perfectly fine if that’s how you feel. No pushback coming from here. I used to feel the same way but as the years pass I’ve come to appreciate that for myself it’s more about the “Holiday Season” that has come to include all things Fall and what it represents. To me Fall means its time to start nesting and filling our homes (as best we can) with supplies of food, preparing to keep it warm, and making it cozy so that we can live comfortably during the long cold months ahead. It is also a time when people are more aware of others who may not have the same and are willing to be more active in their sharing and giving to help those folks. There is definitely an uptick in donations during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season and it is such a heartwarming & beautiful thing 🧡. This is why I love Fall.

Below is my easy Dutch Apple recipe. I make it every November 15 as it is my sister in law Karen’s birthday and her favorite pie. And is proof that giving doesn’t always have to be expensive. It can be as simple as a homemade pie 😊

Peace and thank you for helping to make the table longer because we are all better when we all help each other 🥰

~Cathy~ 🧡

Dutch Apple Pie Bake at 375 degrees
Filling (for 1 pie):
5-6 cups peeled and cut up apples of choice. (some like tart, some like sweet and I like to mix both tart and sweet)
1 tbls Lemon Juice
1/2 C Sugar (I add a bit more)
1/4 C Brown Sugar
3 tbls Flour
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
In large bowl mix apples and rest of the ingredients together and pile into your uncooked pie crust. Set aside while making the Struesal Topping.

Topping:
3/4 C Flour
1/4 C Sugar
1/4 C Brown Sugar
1/3 C Butter or Margarine at room temperature

Using a pastry blender or 2 forks mix altogether until pea size crumbles. Sprinkle evenly over the apple filling. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes. If crust gets too brown cover with foil.
My advice? Make at least 2 😉

Happy Friday everyone. I want to give an update regarding the Blessing Boxes.

With deep appreciation and gratitude to everyone and there have been many "everyones" (ok I made that word up 😉) that has donated, and in less than a week's time, 20 families have been helped with their need for assistance. From simply putting a request for help out there, the response has been nothing short of amazing. You all have been so generous and giving it is truly heartwarming. This experience reinforces our belief that there are truly good people in our communities out there who believe we are all better when we all help each other in times of need. You guys are ROCKSTARS!!

Thank you all so much for helping to "make the table longer".
We are humbled by your generosity.

We sent up the Bat Signal and WOWZA did you guys show up! Once we add our boxes of meat and divide this up into bags to go with each box, the number of families in need of short term food relief this will help makes me teary eyed 🥹.

Good morning and welcome to my kitchen on our first snowy day this season. Today’s coffee chat & musings is short because with immense gratitude I will be busy at the shop sorting and organizing all the donations dropped off yesterday 🧡. The response to our post of yesterday was nothing less than amazing! And all in 3 hours no less!! Donations of cash and the volume of goods that started within 10 minutes of the post was staggering and we could not be more grateful or thankful 🥹. (I will post pictures once I have it all sorted out) Because of you, our awesome customers, and others in the community who care, we and YOU will be able to help so many families that are in need of short-term food assistance. Angels truly live and walk among us ❤️

I will be working on meal plans and hopefully, adding a few simple recipes to go along with it in each Blessing Box. The plan is to share that on a later post this week per the request of a couple of followers of this page.

Today our supper is going to be pork roast, roasted potatoes, acorn squash and if I have enough have time, Apple Crisp. A hearty cold day meal and one of Mr’s favorite. And can I give a shout out to this husband of mine? This man supports & encourages me, inspires me, goes along with all my crazy, and picks up where I sometimes drop the ball to get us all to and over the finish line. All of my ideas would get no where without him because he is the one that is putting in the most physical work to make it happen. Every new meat bundle I come up with means he has to add it to his own work schedule because I’m not the butcher or meat-cutter. He understands that when I come to him and say “Uh hon? I did a thing” it means he’s going to be doing something extra 🤷🏻‍♀️😂. The man is a SAINT!

Peace and thank you all 😊

⭐️⭐️UPDATE⭐️⭐️ Due to several requests I am adding my Venmo to this: -Hesche to make it easier for those who want to use that instead. The response is incredible and we thank you all so much! 🥹

Asking for something we have never done before 😔 We want to “Make our table longer”. (See our cover photo for reference)

Times are hard right now. No one deserves to be denied access to food for themselves or their family due to what is going on with the SNAP program. Full stop. I don’t care what side one stands on — we can agree there ARE people who are in need right NOW and that is what we are choosing to focus on.

There has been a significant increase in requests for our Blessing Box over the last 4 weeks and we have been able to meet the need; however, we can’t sustain it on our own long-term if the need continues to increase; and all indicators are that it will.
We already fill them with a few meat products but now we want to finish them to make a few entire meals. These are intended only to cover a few days at most and not for weeks. But specifically the “in-between” days between paychecks or benefit payments or food pantry visits.

So starting next week we are taking it a step further and adding to the meat boxes a few items that will help further by adding the following items:

•Instant potatoes, microwave mac & cheese
•Pasta
•Shelf stable milk
•Canned goods such as veggies, tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce, etc
•Seasoning packets such as sloppy Joe mix, chili mix, taco seasoning, soup & stew mixes

In each box I plan to enclose a meal plan for folks to help them stretch the food even further to meet their needs.

This is something we have never done — we are humbly asking for donations of the above mentioned items if any of you would like to help us help others. Every donation will be used for the Blessing Boxes and will be deeply appreciated — by those receiving them and Phil & I 🧡. Any amount is equally important, welcome and perfect.

Donations of the food items, or money to help with procuring the food, can be dropped off at our shop during our normal hours of 9 to 5 Mon - Fri and Sat 9 to 1. If these hours do not fit someone’s schedule please call us at 616-897-4921 or 616-304-5723 and we can make arrangements for drop offs after hours.

“We listen and we do not judge.”

We Thank you and we are Thankful 😌
