Sweetgrass Farms

Sweetgrass Farms Sweetgrass Farms is a local, hydroponic produce farm. We cultivate our crops in towers using ground coconut fiber and essential nutrients.

Sweetgrass Farms aspires to be a prototype for the future of farming. Using 90% less water and over 75% less land space, our produce is cleaner, tastier and more nutritious than any you will find elsewhere. We never use toxic pesticides or herbicides, therefore no need to wash what you buy here. Our crops are tenderly cared for from seeds to harvest to give your family the very best.

NASA’s Spinoff magazine, published annually, profiles particular U.S. technologies which associate with NASA missions and research. Barrett Demler’s work at Sweetgrass Farms is mentioned (2018 issue) in an article honoring Ed Rosenthal’s Florikan. The piece recognizes Florikan’s significant contribution to growing veggies in space and offers a few quotes from Sweetgrass owner, Jim Demler. We are humbled, flattered and consider it quite a privilege to not only work with Mr. Rosenthal but to call him a close friend. Congratulations. What an honor. Bringing out of this world technology to Earth! Now on to Mars and eating well while there!

We’ve had the U-Pick open these last few Saturdays during preseason, but in preparation for the season opening Spring Fling March 30th, we have decided not to have the u-pick open this Saturday.

There hasn’t been much of a cold season, which the plants need, and we are combating a few issues without the use of pesticides and herbicides. So it’s taking some creative and time consuming measures.

We apologize for any inconvenience. We just want to be able to produce the very best products, the right way, and abundantly prior to the season opener. We may likely resume Saturday u-picks after this weekend, but we will know for sure early next week, and that info will be posted here.

We really appreciate everyone’s support and all the proceeds from the u-picks go directly to funding Vets 2 Success training programs for veterans in need.

✨We are still in preseason✨ We should be yielding larger quantities by mid-March.

✨We do not use any pesticides or herbicides.✨ So combating pests and other issues (like keeping the squirrels away) has been something the Vets 2 Success nonprofit volunteers are actively working to manage effectively.

✨This week✨ we had multiple people stop in for information and if volunteers are out there, they will not turn away anyone looking to pick strawberries or purchase eggs.

⚠️So this is just a friendly warning that we may sell out quickly this week ⚠️

We still have sweet baby animals (chicks and bunnies) our big tortoise Rodrigo and the chickens. And folks are welcome to tour the farm.

ALL profits this year go to the local charity nonprofit Vets 2 Success to fund their programs that support homeless, displaced and second chance veterans in our community.

✳️Our Spring Fling ~ Season Opener is scheduled for March30th✳️ We will post more details this upcoming week!

Thank you for your understanding and support!
