YouTuber MrBeast has announced a monumental milestone: the campaign has now cleared over 34 million pounds of waste from oceans, rivers, and beaches worldwide. 🌎♻️

The initiative, launched with the goal of removing 30 million pounds, surpassed expectations thanks to a massive global effort. Thousands of volunteers, partner organizations like Ocean Conservancy and The Ocean Cleanup, and supporters from more than 60 countries came together to make it happen.

Forests filter our air, provide fresh water, regulate our climate, and improve our health and wellbeing. They are critical in climate change mitigation and are vital for protecting our planet’s unique biodiversity.

The leading cause of deforestation in Australia is animal agriculture — mostly to create pasture for cattle and to grow their food. In Queensland alone, nearly 89% of the forest and bushland that were bulldozed in 2020 and 2021 was for beef cattle pasture. As more and more forest is destroyed for cattle farming, there are fewer and fewer places where species endemic to Australia, such as Platypus, Wombat, Regent Honeyeater and Rufous Bettongs can thrive.

That’s why a new campaign in Australia aims to put an end to native forest logging across the country, where an estimated 50 million trees are bulldozed each year. In the past 200 years, over 100 Australian endemic species have gone extinct, and hundreds more, such as the Koala and Swift Parrot, are now highly threatened due to habitat destruction.
