Hello everyone,
I felt like I needed to put this out with the many messages I have received looking for guidance when purchasing protein for your families.
Due to the recent news regarding imported beef, let me first say that i am not a butcher. I am a fish mongor for multiple decades but know multiple (honest) people in the meat, poultry, pork, veal, produce and dairy industries. Unlike seafood, the meat industry does not have to legally display their products with C.O.O.L labeling (Country of Origin) The government did away with that law in 2015 but seafood still needs to follow this law today. All this does is let the customer know what country the fish is from and indicate if it is wild or farm raised. (P.S we love this law and believe it keeps everyone in my industry honest). For those that have reached out to me looking for ways to make sure that your beef is wholesome and free from chemicals, the only advice I can give you is "Know your butcher". I have no data or inside information that proves product from Argentina, Venezuela, or wherever this new beef will be coming from is safe. I can tell you that we are lucky to have a few local retailers that have the same business concept as Claws (quality first) Steve from "Off the block" in Sayville and Ryan from "Chubs meats in Medford are two guys that will only offer quality. Get to know them, ask questions and start a relationship (Just like I have with my customers) If your looking for $7.99 lb NY strip or $14.99 fillet mignon, your probably not going to find it there. If you want quality, graded beef... give em a try. Hope this helps. If not, just eat more fish. Lol
